I got a 2007 Volvo with under 200K miles on it. But that wasn't the norm. Most got 2005's or 2006's, nothing older than that was assigned as far as I know.

I'm going to add to this reply, and several more I've missed over the past couple of days.

For the most part, new hires do not get a new truck. It has happened though. And you will eventually get one. We got some Cascadia's in a month or so ago....really nice :D

Inverters: You can use a large one, as answered by a previous poster. I have a 1500 watt.

The comment about needing input from the drivers instead of students. I'm a driver, check my post history.

The comment about W&S being "darling of the month". Okay so it may well be at the bottom of the barrel next month. For now, it remains my darling :D I'm happy here.

I don't want ANY driver or student to come here expecting to be handed a HUGE paycheck, just because they showed up. I don't want ANY driver or student to come here, and think they own the company. It's run by an excellent team IMHO, and you shouldn't think you know better. I don't want anyone the think that it can't get bad, because it can...this is trucking!!

Many of our OTR drivers have APU's on their trucks. They will be getting them to the entire OTR fleet as they can.

Many of our Regional drivers get home EVERY week, for multiple days...not just a few hours. Some stay out 10-14 days. It really depends on the location of home, and the freight. It comes down to, do I want to run miles to make my money? Or, can I handle the manual labor of unloading. LadyTrucker, I will assume that you want to drive for yours LOL.

I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that W&S is THE best thing since sliced bread. They have their issues too. But, I attribute most of those to growing pains, and the need to keep up with high cost of fuel.

Turn over rate is well BELOW the national average. Our rate of pay is very deceiving, unless you strictly want to drive for your paycheck.

By comparison. I just came in this morning. 84 total hours away from the house. $935.00 ( 1580 miles) that's all I got this week...sorry guys and gals, I was off for 5 days :p

I will leave in the morning, with a 1950 mile run. $682.00 And I will most likely be gone for 2 weeks, getting more miles.

I don't consider myself the "average" regional driver at this company, by any measure of the stick. I'm not afraid to run out long, and stay out 2-3 weeks at a time if asked too, or if our LTL freight falls off.

I'm not afraid to throw a set of chains on a truck. I hate it as much as anyone else though.

I have become spoiled by my company. I b#t## (to myself) if I sit for more than 2 hours waiting to hear from dispatch about my next load. How many of you can say that? And, really expect a load to be there within another hour or so?

I b#t## (to myself) If I am offered a 1 or 2 stop load. How many of you are willing to say that?

I don't have a TV ! I'm too **** tired to watch TV at the end of the day. I go to bed. And get ready to do the same thing the next day. All I have to do is pull into a truckstop with my radio on, to realize the majority of drivers can't say that.

No !!! Watkins & Shepard isn't the best company. I don't know who is. But, they have my seal of approval. And, that's all that matters to me and my family.

PS: I'll be gone on my wifes' birthday. So yup, I'm catching hell. But, I was asked to cover a load and I did. They cover me when I ask. I can return the favor when they ask. My wife is all too aware of the Quid Pro Quo I play with my employer. She grumbles too, but she doesn't mind it. The benefits far outweigh the bad.

My wife will tell you that Watkins & Shepard IS the best company. I can only hit the highlights of what she likes. Namely, her husband at home multiple days a week. The paycheck. And the reduced stress on her husband and the rest of the family caused by other companies her husband has worked for in the past. But, I'm sure some of you might say her opinion doesn't matter ;)

Nice job dance! Not sure i will be joinin you though--as i sit and wait for the verdict! :biggrin_2554: At least i tried! I think the agility test got me--but its ok! The box of weights was too awkward for me to lift how they wanted them lifted! :biggrin_25510: But we will see what they say--i only get bad luck these days so i dont expect to get the answer i want! Good luck to ya anyways. (of course, i have 2 other offers that i have to decide on by wednesday--so we shall see what happens).

it wasnt that bad--its just the box was made for a big man with long arms -- not a 100 pound lady with skinny arms. I could lift it just not the way they wanted it. I think its a sexist thing personally. The box was too huge for me--so oh well! thats how it goes i guess. They said it may not disqualify me but i dunno. I told them it wasnt the weight but how the box was awkward.

I got a 2004 Freightliner with about 365K its in pretty good shape and keeps me going down the road. I just put a 2500 watt inverter, microwave and tv in the truck and my wife stocked me with groceries, so I will be good to go when I leave again next week. Hope this helps.
