drove through a residential neighborhood today in the chicago suburbs. scared the living crap outta me. man o man was i scared. one wrong turn and your screwed. man. im telling you if you are OTR aint nothing better than dedicated route! same place ! NO WORRIES! midwest regional prob doesnt have much dedicated routes. but im sure there are some. but still this whole going to a new place each day thing isnt cool. its all about doing the same thing. ya it might be boring, but u have a set schedule. you know your pay and when you can be home etc....its worth it ....thats my two cents. the best would be walmart dedicated fleet. but we dont got one.

Scout it out on google satview first, and if you have GPS, programme in your exact route so you get a heads up where the road is. I've done some driving through neighborhoods to get to cx's, and it is for sure unsettling.

However, no way would I want to be on a Walmart dedicated. Walmart is my kryptonite.

I have gone into violation twice because shippers released me after my 14 expired and they would not let me stay there. As soon as I got to a safe place to shut down I sent a message to safety talling them what happend. So far no one has said a thing to me about it. I have heard if you do it 3 time in a month you will get routed to a term and sit for 5 days. Not sure if that's true or not but don't want to find out either.

Are you talkin about Newlyweds? That place is easy, just use the whole road when making a couple of those turns. Go slow until you get your confidence up. WalMart would only be awesome if you worked for WalMart! They make the rest of us wait on their guys to get gone. And they won't let you in early and forget leaving before exactly 2 hours after your appt, if they let you go then! Detention is only good if its not costing you a great load, which seems to be the only time I get held up at a DC. Haven't you been drivin 4-5 months now? Is it everything you hoped for yet?!

Ha, I did the same thing my FIRST day. pulled in an international dealer to find a trailer wash out, made a left instead of a right out of the parking lot, ended up at a dead end, had no choice but to turn in a residential area, cars parked on both sides, to get back on the main road. The people on their porches got a kick out of it, they actually applauded me and gave me some thumbs up, when i got thru it. lol.

Me personally, I couldnt do a dedicated route, too routine for me. I like going to new places, part of the job.

Chicago suburbs...going to Newlyweds! Narrow roads made even narrower with cars parked...on 'both' sides, and people all over the place. As Frost says, use the whole road when turning. On one of my right turns, I had to wait a bit (backing traffic up behind me) and then took the turn slow as cars were parked to the corner - oncoming traffic on my turn had to back up a bit for me...because I wasn't backing up. Made it through though - everyone ought to have that joyful experience at least once.

I went into violation a few times and nothing ever came of it...'as long' as you 1) send a msg over the qualcomm as soon as you are able to, and 2) have a good reason as to 'why' you went into the violation. I just had a stretch, I think in one month, where I cut things too close and anticipated too much from the shippers getting me out at a decent time. However, I sent in a msg asap and had good reasons and safety never bothered me.

I can't remember where, but there was one Walmart that I was in and out in just over an hour. The first time it surprised the heck out of me...the second time (again, same Walmart), it was great and almost too good to be true. I only went there twice so can't say it would always happen that way.
