Went to look at the T600 Friday and its 75% done, finished painting it and it does look really good, happy with it and soon as i get the chance to bring it home in between snow storms and sloppy roads i will get some pictures, we figured with all the salt and slop on the roads we would rather let it sit in the shop till it gets a little drier. My question is while down looking at the truck the one fella putting it back together is trying to talk me into running straight pipes up the back of the cab instead of the mufflers, in his words it "sure would look nicer not to put those heavy old mufflers back on and straight pipes would look and sound soooooo nice". I think we should just put it back the way it was, he has the pipes there, some takeoffs that he aquired and wouldn't charge any labor just a couple hundred for the pipes. Is it going to make the 12.7 430 Detroit really loud and could it damage anything, i would imagine the jake would really bark although he says it would sound pretty, like to hear some thoughts and comments, thanks.

Check the laws in Ontario on decibel levels = fines for excessive noise, also modified exhaust is a violation of emission controls and certifying your truck could be a problem, also a larger fine.
Please don`t park any where near me. -
Are your customers going to be impressed with a noisy truck? I don't mean the grunts on the loading dock, I mean the guy that signs the checks.
If I was the guy signing the checks, my first thought would be, that yahoo with the noisy truck is going to bring disturb the neighbors, and bring "goverment types" around to make problems for me.
How is a cop going to look at it? My bet is, he takes a harder look at a loud truck when he is playing pick & choose at the DOT check.
What possible benifit could loud pipes bring? You will impress teenage boys, and Billy big riggers. Bikers with all the Harley stickers, and leather, but no motorcycle will think you are "cool"
And to top it all off, it's going to cost you money to do this thing. -
So what you guys are saying is its going to be "LOUD", thats exactly what i figured although was told it wouldn't be bad i told him to put it back the way it was with both mufflers, just wanted your opinions and thoughts. We use the truck on the farm and sometimes go a little later into the night so would much rather glide in quietly then to wake up the nighborhood, thanks for the replies.

Forget the straightpipes. I have driven trucks with straightpipes and they are LOUDER than hell. Far more annoying than 'cool'
-
they sound cool, for about a half hour. then they are annoying. remember you have to listen to it all day. They do look good though but you need a muffler underneath.
-
For the first hour or two you will think straights are cool. After that the constant loud rumble will begin to drive you nuts. I like a nice exhaust sound as much as any body but straights isn't where its at.
I shake my head at the clowns that run straights. You can hear their pipe rumble just driving down the road from a full truck/trailer length away on both sides of their truck.
Straights ARE NOT for me!
The no jake laws around the country are thanks to the billy big riggers that run their jakes with straights. -
You can get mufflers that give you a nice throaty sound, far cooler than straights.

Drifter not very far away from you, Wateford Ontario here, again thanks for the reply, not going to go with straight pipes but like i said the guy putting it back together after the paint job thought we should, at the time i said no and just want it the way it was especially being a Daycab too.

Last week when we put a clutch in my truck i couldn't save the muffler. The guy that i was helping had a u pipe to put on it. The sound is tolerable with the long pipes, but to loud for my likings, i believe the jakes could wake the dead. I saw somewhere a performance muffler for W9's, but can't remember where i seen it. Anyone offhand know a brand or shop that handles them?
