I forgot to add that all the OTR jobs were out of the los Angeles and Riverside areas. Only a handful of companies run OTR out of San Diego CA. Its about a two hour drive to get to work , so if you like driving your own vehicle, and you get a job north of San Diego, hopefully the employer will have a safe place to park your vehicle while you are on the road. Most new drivers will not start OTR out of San Diego anyway. Most companies will start you out local in San Diego at first, then start running you back-n-forth within a hundred miles of San Diego, like El Centro, LA, Victorville, and high deserts. I loved it, lots of driving, with good weather almost all the time, and home every night. The down side is, with some companies they can really push you on the hours you work. (no log book within 100 miles) I would get well over 65 hours behind the wheel in a week, many times being on a paid salary. OTR looked real good at times, just due to the rest factor.:smt043 Once again Good Luck !
Common runs out of San Diego?

Thanks for the great info. Do you know of any specific SD companies that commonly go to el centro? I would love that run. I am currently looking at kkw trucking out of Pomona. Home weekly and you run ca, az and nv mostly or so I've heard.

I think the company name is Osterkamp, I'm not sure, but it is something like that. I'm not even sure of the company location, I think San Diego Ca. A lot of flatbed loads being picked up out of Plaster City. Not quite as far as El Centro, but in the same direction as El Centro. Plaster City manufacturers drywall, so many other flatbed outfits will be doing the same. Hauling hay would be going that way also. If you have a hazmat, and tanker endorsement, look into pool chemicals and fuel. Good Luck.

Yep osterkamp is the name. Their closest location to SD is Pomona. Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for but that would be a 100 mile drive to work, unfortunately. I'm starting to find out all of the local jobs are in la/riverside/San bern. Finding a company that runs to LA or el centro and back is a whole lot harder then expected, even if I had exp there still doesn't seem to be much advertised. You mentioned hauling hay, is there someone out of San Diego that does that? I would think it would be mostly imperial county companies hauling it out.

just a few small places in and around Lakeside, CA. But you're right, it's tough. Try the Miramar area. A lot of trucking companies around there. KRAFT FOODS is one that comes to mind, if they haven't moved. Keep trying !
