Hi I'm curious about what its like doing dump work in San Diego. What's a typical day like? Average pay? How hard is it to get hired on as a newb and any specific companies? Ive got my class A with doubles and tanker. Thanks.

you wont be making more than $40k a year. I have a friend that currently still works with end dumps in that area and barely squeeze by earning about $3k a month on a great month. He has over 12 years with that company and has had many $300 weeks. I couldnt support my family with those wages any longer, so I sought a better paying company. Working for percetage pay off of already low rates is tough. If you happen to get on board with an established company like West Coast Sand and Gravel, you stand a better chance of a decent living, plus better equipment and steady work. have you looked into companies out there?

I grew up in the dump truck business in So Cal and needless to say its gone to sh&*!West Coast is a great company and know they are doing dirty dirt which will keep them busy
PapaTom Thanks this. -
Hey ya I've looked at west coast, mountain materials, johns trucking, Burns and sons and a few others. I have no exp so that doesn't help either. Papatom since you live in SD can you tell me any other local companies that might run to la and back or el centro and back. Something like that.

sorry for the delay. been on the road. Those are some great choices to look at for a fresh beginning. If I were you, I would shoot for West Coast. I've never worked for them, but seeing that that they have some long timers I've run into, is a good sign. I 'll send you some info through a private message. I have first hand knowledge of a couple of companies, but I dont want to unfairly post good/bad info publicly.
