I have a load that weighs 127K. It is 70 feet long at the top, 20ft long on the bottom, 11'8" wide, and 11' tall. It will have to go through NY and New England, so it will need engineering, escorts, and permits. Since no two drivers will pay the same amount for those extras, I have it priced at $8,000.00 plus the extras, and have not had a single call. What am I doing wrong? It works out to be a little more than $38.00 per mile.

Where is it coming from and going to?

Call the popular local haulers and ask them what they want.

I hate to tell you this, but it's too low.
With the size of it, it will make alot of people nervous. I know I would not want to do it if I had my old set up.
Being so long on the top and a short base on the bottom.
This piece sounds like a top heavy wreck waiting to happen.
I hope you can find a carrier willing to do it and you get it moved safely..

Maryland to Mass. I called around, and keep getting the "I'll call you back", which is a kiss of death in this business.

It's a tracked vehicle, so it should be fairly stable. If 9K is too low, I can (the shipper will have to) go higher, but at a certain point, my bid will no longer be competitive.

Sounds like with the hassles of coming out of Md.
You mean Daily won't even touch it??
They seem to love that stuff.
What about Loma? I know they can handle something like that.
Call them if you have'nt allready. They are based out of N.J.

I get 325 miles from Baltimore, MD to Springfield, MA via NYC. $8000/325 = $25/loaded mile + extras. Not counting DH.

I'm a wuss, therefore I would avoid NYC due to traffic, curfews and lack of places to shut down so my miles would be closer to 430 + DH...$19/loaded mile.

I only have tandem axle DD's so let's pretend is legal weight and pretend it's something like a screening plant. Also let's pretend that there is no weekend layover. Shortest DH I have would be around 400 miles from Albany, NY. Then need to DH back another 400 back to my yard. Here's what I would be writing on my note pad.

    400 DH to PU + 460 estimated permitted miles + 400 DH to yard = 1260 miles x 1.70 = $2,142
    $.28/mile driver bonus for OW x 460 = $129
Tolls on DH = $60 estimated
    1260 miles / 50 mph avg = 25 hrs x 75 = $1,875
    4 hrs load + 3 hrs unload = 7 hrs x 75 = $525

    So something like $4,700 - $5,000 or $11/mile.....but alas it's 127,000 lbs and 70' lg so I am out.
