going into the runaway ramp was a good choice.
What was wrong with he brakes and the jake.
Were you going down the hill to fast and then realized it too late?
Just asking. Glad nobody got hurt. Pride maybe, but no injuries or death -
your life vs taking the runaway ramp,....I would take the obvious choice. The problem, is what happens after you come to a stop, explaining why you didn't check your brakes and gear down at the top of the hill, to whoever shows up. Mpost of the time, even if you have done everything right,..they will put blame on you, acusing you of such things.
BTW,...did you try your parking/tailer brakes? last stich effort only of coarse. could have spilled off some speed to get it into lower gear perhaps, except maybe if the road was slick. -
my truck did not have pull bar... Pro star international.... breaks where working had stopped about 30min or so sooner to slow truck down before taking that last part
-
no had stopped and slowed down even more from 5th to 3rd but jake did not help slow down and then did everything I know to slow down and nothing worked
-
most of the prostars are programmed for the jake not to work below the very top end of 6th gear (30-mph).

i was referring to the parking brakes not a pullbar. parking brake + pedal = overbraking ... may slow u down in emergency, but risks damaging brakes too.
did u stop because you noticed brakes/jake not quite right at the previous hill? if so, a hand on each axle, feelimg for warmth will tell you if a brake or 2 is not working or out of adjustment. Those big hills are nothing to play with. I tap my jakes at the top of every one of them when I am heavy. I also pull hard against the trailer brakes every time i get a new trailer to ensure 5th wheel lock AND brakes are in good shape.
just some thoughts on it,...RawzeLast edited: Jul 20, 2013

what was your trailer brakes thickness during the pretrip?
-
before leaving and pre-trip everything was good with truck...... I had stopped about 30 min prior and everything was good

now on the lighter side,

I says, "Earl, this hill can spill us. You better slow down or you gonna kill us. Just make one mistake and it's the Pearly Gates for them eight-five crates a' USDA-approved cluckers. You wanna hit second?"SHO-TYME, cobratori and brakecheck Thank this.
