Basically your reputation is only as good as your current drive shift. One accident ruins that million mile plus safe driving record. Just because someone has 10 plus years driving does not mean it was consecutive. The more you can get into specialized frieght the better pay you will get. I have an eye out on a company that gives a 100,000 and up salary per year pulling a dry van. They only take the bet of the best. Plus you get 2 months off a year.

There are companies that due just that for testing purposes.

Thanks allot. It is more than necessary in any industry to be able to see things from more than one perspective. Consider all possibilities genuinely so that one can save oneself from error and disappointment. I feel with an attitude like this, you cannot fail, at anything.

Cant speak for other places...... But here in CA: if you knock on the door of some trucking schools with your permit, and DOT card in hand- you can usually get them to loan you a truck for about $500 to go take your test in -
So basically, the more crumbs you take, the more they add up into whole slices? Haha..I think thats what I inferred. Just thought it shouldnt take too long for that to build.. After a year or two your reputation should be good enough for raises and pay increases. Pay your dues. But if 10 year vets are still making 5/hr......with a clean record....trucking doesnt seem like the place to be at all....
You get what you put in is what it sounds like your saying. Thats what I figured. You motivation determines your check...after about a year or so at least I hope. -
Wow..Thats a great lead...Could save lots of money as well. Definitely will look into that. If all else fails, someone in this great metropolis knows someone with a truck...Too many people in this city to not be able to find someone. Guess it's just a matter of how hard you look. Good info.

Like china stated earlier. Your first year is going to rough. Once you get on your own after training there is no reason you should to be able to make a minimum of 40k a year with a good company. Go tanker and hazmat then you should have no problem with the 50k to start.

Every profession has people that have been in the game for a long time and make a laughable wage compared to their peers. How many lawyers have been around for 20 plus making the same as a new guy? Experience does not always translate to intelligence.

Thats what I was thinking. Motivation determines pay rate.
One question for the No-Schooling option.
What does schooling teach you for getting your CDL that you cant learn independently?
I imagined that going to a school would give me the "necessary" hands-on training I needed to pass. Is it possible or just as easy to pass the CDL testing without the hands-on experience schooling has to offer, or would it be inadvisable to study and do everything on my own?
