Not sure about Swift. I was forced to walk away from my Prime lease due to the circumstances after only being in the truck for 6 months and have not heard anything since. Good luck.

If you just park it they can and more than likely will report it abandoned and it could hit your credit. Read your lease or have an attorney read your lease to see if you can walk away. Clean it up as best you can and turn it in at the terminal they ask you to turn it in at. Make sure to walk around and do an inspection with them they sign off and you sign off and you walk away. I heard stories at Prime when people turned in a truck without doing a walk around with someone and they had a bills for unneeded repairs.

Do it the right way and I am sure you will be fine.

I wouldn't worry about it as it seems to have become the American way of doing things. Walk away from your house, vehicles, all responsibilities. Everyone that does that sort of thing always seems to have a convenient excuse.

I don't know how people sleep with themselves at night.

Besides most companies don't care... they drove you to bankruptcy, still have a good truck, time to go find some other poor sap to suck dry. They'll do it till the truck is old and gets sold.

Wow, harsh! Have you ever had a lease? My company's leases are written so that you CAN walk away. I did. I took some time off to look into the local job market, and decided to come back. It's one of the few benefits of leasing versus buying outright.

No I never have and I never ever will.

I just don't like when people don't pay their debts.

Rest assured the OP's lease with SWIFT is not LIKELY a walk away and all is FORGOTTEN / FORGIVEN type lease.

That used to be the way - having a responsibility to take care of debts. But companies and corporate America have not had any issues with dealing with their debts and risk without any emotional attachments or moral qualms for many decades now, so I see why those attitudes would eventually filter into our society. To companies, if the bottom line says to walk away from it, they walk away. It's simple as that.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with walking away from it. Might want to get a plan in place in case it messes with your credit or ability to get another truck though...
