Why not? It's a preventable accident.

Many drivers have preventable accidents and dont get fired.. You do not throw away a driver for one mistake or collision if you're smart. NOW saying that, if there is some policy in place that specifically addresses this, then firing is a possibility. If there isn't then there would probably be something placed in the driver's file and made official.

Its pretty sure that the driver's inexperience or hate caused this problem, that will need to be addressed. Not sure how many times I've been down grades with no jakes.. but before you go down the grades, you know what your gross weight is and you do the REAL mechanical brake check (leaks, alarms buttons) and uncover something simple before you head down the side of a mountain especially one you've never been down before!

The driver did the right thing by taking the escape ramp, the alternatives would have certainly be worse that the tow bill and possible citations. Live and learn.. and it will keep you alive.

Please share how hate caused the problem, if you would. Thank you.

It depends on the severity of the accident. Using an escape ramp costs $10,000. The company has to pay this on top of paying for the damages to the truck, trailer and it's cargo. If an investigation reveals a pre-existing problem, the OP could even face jail time.

I noticed the typo.. that was supposed to say HASTE... drivers as a whole and newer drivers more than others tend to sometimes get in a hurry and let their desire to get things done, get way ahead of their experience level. I think this was a lucky driver.. he now knows several things... I think every driver including myself would admit to doing something like this on a down grade.. I got going a little too fast on a grade but was very near the bottom when I started experiencing brake fade.. I will never forget that creepy feeling and darned sure do not want to every do that again and never have.. it begins with brake fade.. and if you start too feel your brakes becoming less effective, it is time to get your but too the shoulder and stop and allow things to cool.. which takes a while.. never push past the point where you know there are problems going on. its a recipe for disaster

How do you know that? Did you inspect the truck after he hit the ramp?

Regardless of the cause and consequences, it was the right thing to do. Better to stay alive and not kill anyone else on the road. At that point you're a danger to everyone on the road.

Far better to take the runaway ramp and get stopped whatever the consequenses. Towards the bottom of the hill on the west side of wolf creek is a hairpin curve that has long drop over the side and a bunch of truck parts laying at the bottom.

it shouldn't of been on the road if it was defective in the first place. I know things break but the chances of things breaking these days arnt that common.
