I made it to Appleton, WI in 20 hours. That includes pit stops and killing a couple of hours being a tourist in St. Louis. Saw some cool stuff there. My buddy talked the hotel clerk into letting us check in at 6:30 this morning when we got here. Saw the Roehl terminal here and it looks pretty nice. They put us up in the Comfort Suites. Hotel is alright, not bad. Orientation starts tomorrow and I'm ready for it. It's nice knowing that I have 3 times more driving experience than the rest of the Roehl trainees that are here for orientation. Gonna be interesting to see who will make the cut.
Change of training facility.

First day of orientation and being sent home! I'm so pissed! If you are going to Roehl orientation, do everything you can to get them to fly you there. Had a minor accident in the rental car on my way up to Appleton (early morning, had a large animal (maybe a deer) dart out from the passenger side of the car and I swerved left out of instinct and knocked down a wooden post traffic sign, $3500 in damage to rental car, no injuries, car still driveable, no other vehicles involved) and the safety dept. doesn't believe my story and thinks I trying to cover something up. So excited to get to Roehl orientation and they are sending me home for some stupid crap.
-
How did you not mention that before telling us how you got to the hotel early and checked in?
-
Didn't think I was going to get kicked out of orientation for it and didn't say anything about it to anyone that didn't need to know. I called the rental car company and filed a claim for the accident and called my Roehl recruiter to let her know what happened. She said it would be taken care of and not worry about it. Now I'm 1100 miles from home and had to pay for my way home. Getting a boot to the ### for a freak accident that I couldn't prevent.

I'm sorry for your situation. It could be an insurance thing, similar to an applicant with a recent accident on their record.
-
Did you get a police report? With that much damage I certainly would hope so. I would think that would be sufficient proof to the safety dept that an animal was the cause of the accident, however when I was in law enforcement I would have still issued a failure to maintain control citation. Too many people lie their ##### off about "deer" running out and are simply driving like morons. I know it's instinct, but always hit the #### thing if its in your path. Hard to deny deer hair all over the front of the vehicle.

I got out of a speeding ticket years ago cause i nailed a deer. Was speeding had cruise set at 70 in a 55 cop rolled in behind me. I knew i was getting a ticket than a deer comes out in front of me. The brush gaurd layed the deer flat and i went over it. The squad car tailgaiting me running my plates got full hit. Cop looked at me and said you were going to get a ticket but now i have more paperwork to deal with your lucky day.
No damage excpet for a few scratched on my truck, squad car had a good amount of damage. -
Wow.. lol.. Yea I used to give people breaks if they said a deer ran out, but soon quickly caught on to the scheme. I'm sure some were honest, but more were lying I felt. I'd look around to find any evidence I could find to verify their story (tracks, hair) anything, but if found none they got a fail to maintain. According to the state whether an animal runs out or not, you're still expected to maintain control of your vehicle.

I maintained full control of the truck. I slowed down pulled over after hitting it. I think the cop felt a bit embarresed due to if he wasn't tailgating he would of avoided it.

Heh....as Roehl says in the driver safety manual, "Drive through the animal." Seriously, those are the exact words.
