Virtually every state issues a 10k fine for using an escape ramp. I've seen it happen numerous times.

One 'mistake' is all it takes in this industry to end your career, freedom, and even life.

    Yeah, I'm perfect. :biggrin_25518:

I don't even know why I bother posting replies on here if this is the kind of responses 'veteran' drivers throw out. I never lost my brakes going down a mountain. Why? Because I always double-check my equipment and I use the Smith system all of the time no matter what I drive. So no, I never made a 'mistake' in 16+ years. Am I perfect? Far from it. Get off your high horse and stop saying that everyone makes 'mistakes'.

Right......... So everyone who never has an accident in this nature because they use the Smith system you never heard of is on a high horse now? :biggrin_25523:

5 keys of the Smith system:

    1. Aim High in Steering
Look 15 seconds into your future. (Don’t just look at the vehicle in front of you)

    2. Get the Big Picture
Look for Hazards. (Other Motorists, Pedestrians, Vehicle doors opening)

    3. Keep Your Eyes Moving
Don’t stare. (Use your peripheral vision)(Stop the fixed habit stare)

    4. Leave Yourself an Out
Monitor the space cushion around you and your truck.

    5. Make sure They See You
Use your signals- (Directionals, 4-Way Flashers, Head Lights, Brake Lights, Horn, Hand Signals) Make Eye Contact.
