I am hitting the road again after 3 years. I worked for a non-profit for time with the family, but that job is over, the kids are older, and it is time for the wheels to get moving again. Has much changed since 2010? I expect elogs, I know about no texting, and I know about the new HOS rules, but is there anything else I should know about?

I will try hard to stay off NY Parkways and Driveways! Thanks. I would take any help in the NE where midgets hit their heads on bridges. I never did much in NY, but the few times I did including the one time I drove out to Long Island I never had problems and the people were great. Maybe I need to drive up to Harlem or park on a side street in the Bronx to find the really obnoxious New Yorkers. Thanks for the advice. FYI- no trucks on I-75/85 through Atlanta, in case you didn't know. You have to take I-285 or get a $300 ticket last I heard. I know some folks get confused, like the guy who took his 53' tractor trailer through the ATL airport the other day. I went around him as he sat stopped staring at the signs, and then when I was walking in he drove on through the drop-off lanes. Lord I hope I don't do anything like that!

Have you thrown any feelers out to companies yet? The 3 yr layoff may pose a bit of a challenge.

I've heard that after 3 years without driving, some companies just consider you a rookie again and want you to have a refresher course.

I'm heading back to Swift. Besides terrible pay, I didn't have much to complain about when I worked for them in 2010. They say if I pass my drive test I only need 2 weeks with a trainer for refresher, which would be nice, but I'll believe it when I get my own truck. It'll be nice to be on familiar ground so I can focus on getting my legs again instead of figuring out how another company works.
