I am looking for the right trucking company for me and was wondering how do I know what companys have APU's in their trucks and governors? What companies should i stay away from that have 62 mph governors on the trucks?

Speed Governors are becoming more and more common. I've researched a lot of companies that hire students and most seem to have them, it just saves so much money for them. If you're worried about them because you think it'll be less miles per week, you have to remember that you are a student driver, applying to starter companies. They're likely not going to give you so many loads a week, that you could only complete them with your HOS if you were going 5 MPH faster. I wouldn't suggest going higher than the posted limit anyway (not many states are 75) as your license is your lifeline now. Cops hate trucks, and you don't want a speeding ticket on your DAC.

For APUs, just try to check out their website and check what equipment they use, it's often listed if they have APUs or Clean Idle (Clean Idle works about the same way as an APU I guess). If they don't list, just ask a recruiter, same for governing.

    Some here might say otherwise...
Don't worry about the Governors, most if not all Companies have governor on their trucks, some faster than others.
But I wouldn't base my decision (whether or not to work for them) on that.

No guaranteed way of knowing. A few large fleets are 100% APU but most are 'mixed' and there's no way to be sure what you'll end up with. As far as governed, all large fleet trucks where a new driver typically starts, will be set to run at 64-66 for the most part, and it will change from truck to truck inside the fleet. Some trucks are configured to cut speed as MPG drops, some are just not consistent in where all the trucks are set for whatever reason. I guess some will chime in on who has the bulk of their fleet at/below 62 but I know of none that slow, although Prime has got some sort of deal going on where I think they are given free handjobs if they run under 58 MPH.

Go to a truckstop, find a driver for the company you are interested in, ask questions. Repeat several times to different drivers.
If you are a wannabe, 62 mph might not be a bad idea for a while.

I have a "speed governer" in the end of my right leg. Have a 10,000W Onan generator under the left side of my cab. I run on coffee & time lines. The rest runs on diesel. Never had a speeding ticket. Not in a truck.

Swift is 62mph for company drivers, owner ops 68, no apu and no inverters

I see prime driving slow all the time, I usually pass them up, I was told they get bonus's for fuel mileage but maybe someone else can confirm that.

Most companies are governing like someone said because of cost, they save in fuel if you go 62 compared to 70, if you drive in certain states you can only go 55 anyway, I usually go 58-59 and cops havent messed with me.

At Schneider theme majority of the solo trucks are 60 on cruise 64 on the pedal. Some of the newer trucks have the epu on them. They do have a temp sensor for idling, supposedly it went idle between 20 and 70 degrees outside, but I have yet to have mine shut off on me.
