Well I have heard good things about Millis Transfer. They have a school in Burleson, Tx, I wouldn't put them in a slave company category. They have a lot of happy drivers in the Millis forum on here,

If he's going to their school, you're right, he'll be a slave and he better get it right because they will own him. Compared with going to a trucking school and let them help him get a job he's free to leave when he's ready.
If he goes with a company as a starter (they train him) look for a company that has terminals near his home. He'll be able to get home easier, catching an outbound from the terminal and catch a ride back or park his car there. -
I'm almost in my own truck through the Millis training program, everything has been top notch. So far a great company

If your brother-in-law is broke, try these:
Prime Inc.
Central Refrigerated
Swift
If he has a little cash available :
JBS Carriers
Knight -
Add Con-way Truckload to your list. Outside CDL, then otr training by the company, possible assistance based on school you use or Military background. Hired there out of school and can't find a good reason to leave.
Chinatown Thanks this. -

That being said, his best option would be to get his cdl thorugh a government loan or school financing. -
He's not military like me, and he lives near Charlotte, nc
