Ok my guy is trying ( sort of ) to get EOBR's..... I have a qualcomm and others have Teletrac.....he has now announced that we're all going Peoplenet. That's going to be his platform of choice.

What can you tell me about Peoplenet? I'm really interested in email, down loading logs, sending msg's etc.

    tks...

Peoplenet is very basic, it gets the job done the carrier I am leased to has them in our trucks with elogs, You will not be shown a grid like on qualcomm and you can not edit logs on it, it is basically a screen and keyboard that works on sattelite and cellphone towers.

i used peoplenet the last six months before i retired and they do have grid screen option. on our system you could make changes but you had to call the log department to do it, of course they acted like it would kill them to do a little extra work. the changes would show up in red on the drivers screen. i didnt like them but could live with them if i had too. be careful out there

they are all about the same. it all depends on how much money your co. wants to spend on it. I have people net. don't like it. would look around at the systems befor spending a bunch of money on people net

I have read of more problems on Peoplenet than any other system.
    Equipment costs vary

IMO , it's poor judgement to pay more for inferior service with Peoplenet. Costs are coming down and it seems the sensible plan would be to delay installation as long as possible to get the latest technology at a lower price.

Agreed but not my call. My carrier uses in house software ( built by them ) for dispatch and billing and no other elog will interface with it. Personally I like qualcomm.

My carrier wastes a lot of money through indecision....and a good thing I'm not following him into battle.......kinda hard to call a SAM back......anyway he started with Teletrac and that's junk......then he took a multi unit trial with Q.C. ( me ) and now he's ripping all of it out for peoplenet.

My neighbor has XDATA on tablets....sweet stuff. They hav an adapter to plug in the tablet to the truck and she's ready. Does payrol , logs, fuel and maint plus DVR all on the tablet THEN carrier lets driver buy internet ( $30.00 / mo ) ....... my bud reads books, pays bills etc. all from his truck ( while loading etc. )

    Thanks......

All the Xata apps I've seen used a Bluetooth connection to connect to the Xata unit.

I agree, technology is always getting better, so why not wait for the latest updates if it benefits you in the long run? Our company had a terrible system installed (won’t mention any names since there are people who seem to like them for some reason), but after we upgraded to Teletrac, everything seemed to run a lot smoother and easier. I would have rather waited to install Teletrac than to deal with that headache of the previous system again.

I would try to do a test run with a couple units before switching out all of it since you don’t know how the system will work…

Quality Carriers jumped the gun installing e-logs thinking it would soon be mandatory. They told drivers the cost would give an excuse to raise rates. :biggrin_25513: . Wrong. Shippers said it was an unnecessary choice QC made.
