Interstate 91 is closed in both directions between Exits 1 and 3 in Brattleboro.
Authorities tell Channel 3 that just before 8 a.m., a tractor trailer went over the Williams Street Bridge and landed on the road below. The truck than burst into flames.
There is no word on the condition of the driver.
Officials say I-91 will be closed in both directions for several hours, because the bridge's structure needs to be inspected.

Trucker killed in I-91 crash; section of highway still closed

    Published: Tuesday, February 5, 2008
BRATTLEBORO -- A truck driver was killed in a fiery crash this morning after he drove his rig off an overpass on Interstate 91 in Brattleboro, said Vermont State Police.

The driver, who has not been identified, was traveling north on I-91 just before 8 a.m., when he lost control of his rig, collided with another car, then drove through guardrails and off an overpass, said police.

The tractor trailer crashed onto Williams Street and burst into flames.

The driver of the second vehicle was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

I-91, between exits 1 and 2 are still closed because of the accident. Traffic is being diverted onto Exit 5 until further notice. Williams Street is also closed between Crosby and Larkin streets, police said.

The accident is still under investigation.

The roads in VT are not taken care of the same way MA does. I've posted this before, but accidents always seem to happen right after drivers cross the northbound state line. Plus, that section of I-91 has some pretty bad curves and hidden on-ramps (exit two.) Bad stretch of highway. The driver never had a chance, what a shame.

Anyhow, nice to see posters from WMass. Have you tried NEMF in Westside? I would assume they would start a newbie as a casual, but it might be worth a look.

Yeah, this sucks big time and hits a little close to home.

I live in Montague, MA. Just got my license in July of last year and I started driving part-time for Websters in Bratt. in Oct. When I'm not driving I work at VY.

Nemf I went to and they were not hiring at the time but left a app.I also went to all the BH/webster trucking plants left apps and they were not hiring at the time . I was told they do hire newbies when they are in the need for drivers. So I cant wait any longer I am having to go to one of these training companies we read about on this site .I leave Sunday to Missori I will be on the road for 6 weeks.
