i just quit a company that i really liked because of equipment issues. just couldn't get the miles due to truck issues.(fought this for over 5 months) now had they been paying me a grand a week just to sit? dude, your nuts if you quit.
leadfoot80 Thanks this. -
Some times it takes a while to new equipment permited and up and running. It sounds like youre doing oilfield work, bulk, or dirt work. If youre guaranteed 2k for 2 weeks regardless, I would hang on and that truck wouldnt roll unless It passed a PTI period.

as a former business owner i can say opening up new areas is not as easy as it sounds, usally the internal burden with expansion is not seen from employees. once they get the extra overhead covered and learn all the laws from the new area things do start improving. but im sure the company is looking at it as a new profit center, in which they should be more concerned with your downtime. after all how can you expand if you cant give good service to the new customers. and why do they not give you one good truck instead of two tired trucks.
i think you are in a spot that may have some great opertunity if you take charge and rant to the company the way they may understand: 1...it cost less to run new equipment
2... customers see reliable service with new equipment
3...downtime is costly both in service and expenses
if the company is serious about expanding to a new area you would think they would have set you up better, which would give their big idea a fighting chance
along as the money is good take the ride and expieriance to a better level.............happy trailsleadfoot80 Thanks this. -
Safety is a concern. Brake problems, wipers, lights... are tires in good condition? A couple of bad inspections and it could be hard to get hired by a good co. It s too risky, not like you are ryding a bycicle to get a beer for granpa.

Stick it out, Someone said if the checks don't cash then is the time when you walk, I'd love to make a $1000.00 a week not doing anything, If the trucks are down they are just down, I wouldn't worry, It is a ground floor opportunity for an upward move for you if you are looking for that. Just my 2 Cents worth!

i'd like to know why you were driving with brakes out of adjustment. that's your own fault for missing your bday. it's also part of your inspection.
it takes 2 minutes to adjust 4 brakes. and now you've got a bad csa score.
i woulodn't walk till i find another job. and QUICK. -
No, not talking about Adam Industries.

I'm going to stick it out, at least until I see what my new equipment looks like (should be here next week) -- like several have said, there is the guaranteed pay which is much better than what I was making (nothing), and is better than some others are getting. If things continue the way they have been going though, I will be looking for a new job. As you can imagine, I was pretty darn frustrated when I wrote this out the other night and I appreciate all the responses.
For those who asked why I got put out of service for brakes out of adjustment -- all four on the trailer needed new s-cam bushings and slack adjusters. On one of the brakes, the top shoe was not touching the drum at all when the bottom one was.
Snowwy, you're absolutely correct, it was my own fault for not catching them. Not trying to make excuses, but as far as I knew they were self adjusting brakes (so they shouldn't go out of adjustment, I thought?). I had driven for a little over a year back in '08, but the company had a shop that did all the service work that needed done. Never had to mess with it. I knew next to nothing about the mechanics of the truck when I started with this company, but every time I take it to the shop now I try to stay with it so I can watch what the mechanics do to it and try to learn from them. I have learned much (about the turbo, v-pod, egr valve, hub seals, shock absorbers, leaf springs, and many other things), but I have not learned about the brakes, slack adjusters, etc. I am remedying that, and will be taking a brake certification course in the next couple weeks so this sort of thing doesn't happen again.
Again, thanks for all the responses and for allowing me to vent a bit!

Depends where im at.If close to home,id call the company tell them I finally had enough and not listen to anymore of their plz don't quit excuses then walk far away from the problem and don't look back..My last company was like this one, always brking down.Me getting more angry with every brk dwon which ultimately got me fired at a receiver.Boss shows up with another driver.I was just going to wait till I get back to his yd then quit. You take companies like this as a lesson learned and move on.I sure have.
