I hate to say it, as landstar might have been in a hurry when he made his post or maybe is trying to make a point and see if anyone catches it, but...... look at the spelling in his post and he has given the answer to his own query. But on a more serious note.... if you look at overall stats regarding where we stand with the rest of the world regarding educational excellence, we are pretty sad. And internally, Iowa once held the position of being always in the top 5 states, and fluctuated in and out of 1st place, for a lot of years. And was the envy of many countries. Iowa developed the standardized testing used by most states in the 50', 60's, and 70's. But how times have changed. Iowa now ranks 28th in the nation. In a couple of categories, Iowa only beat W. Virginia in scoring. Iowa is binging up the rear. You want to find out how far we have declined? Just go pick up a set of the McGuffy Readers and a set of the Ray's Arithmetic books. These were the standard text books of the late 1800's and early 1900's. I defy anyone to successfully solve the 9th grade math questions, including many college students today. And reading comprehension standards were very high just using the McGuffy readers. There are numerous examples of individuals that excelled in various endeavors and all they learned from was these text books. Some, having never completed high school even! The rest of the world is laughing at us and going to leave us in the dust. We have been spending all the time since WWII patting ourselves on the back and saying how great we are and the rest of the world has quietly passed us buy. Not all of the countries, for sure, but we have a lot of catching up to do. But the Political class loves a dumbed down citizenry and will not raise educational standards. Sad.

I apologize before hand and hope my comment will offend anybody, but the truth is after my just 11 years of experience running 48.. NOT 50 states (I am still not aware of the bridge going to hawaii) I've noticed how the cubans have brought down rates dramatically in the flatbed industry in texas. driver turn over has increase a lot, contracts have been worked over for less line haul and even given out the fuel surcharge in order to land a contract (their employers had)
I moved to california for a few years and boy... is it hard to land a driving "decent paid job"
in texas as a driver I make a gross of 40 CPM. I know of a few companies even paying 42CPM, while in the time I lived in cali (not light years back) I was being offered 28-32 CPM with clean record and over 7 years of experience. Now I don't believe the problem in cali is not enough trucks, and I don't believe is not enough companies to work for either. I'd dare to say it is "the mexican mentality" that has brought trucking to the low paying crap they offer in such an expensive state. they'd work for less than the other guy to get the job. now we know this will only hurt us all in the long run, beginning city wide/state wide and as we see now on days even country wide... or haven't you noticed that some companies all over 48 states want to "start you off" with a few cents less.. but what are a few cents less they say..
so giving full privilage to mexicans working here without upholding a standard on rates, language, liability, and responsabilities (such as logs)
this will hurt us and I'm sure it has driven some drivers out of the business, and some of us will stay in for as long as we can hold on, but with all the other crap going on in our industry (such as fuel price, HOS and others) this #### just adds up to drive us out of this industry...
my .02..
120,000 x .02 cents a year is $2,400.00 less out of your pay -
camaro68 Thanks this.
