    can't get serial number until weekend but wondering if 455 normally came with steel or aluminum pistons. 96 pete

    if its a factory 455hp that hasn't been rebuilt and upgraded it will have one piece pistons in it.

    The 435/455HP 5EK 3406E Cat engines have 2 piece steel top pistons. It should be a 5EK##### serial number engine if it is the original engine in a 96 Pete. Get the complete serial number and I can give you the part numbers

    The 550 Hp can be achieved with this engine, but not with a CAT uprate. CAT will limit this with a stock file to no more then 475 Hp@2100RPM and 1650 torque@1200RPM, but you have to change the turbo. The 475Hp@2100RPM 1750 torque@1200RPM and higher Hp engines have a different set of injectors to build the Hp. So a stock 5EK 475/1750 and higher Hp flash files with these Hp ratings will actually hurt Hp in your case as your engine is currently configured.
