I signed up through a trucking school for 70 hours of training before I go to take my class A license test. After I take the test and have my class A license in my hand are companies that I am applying for going to want me to have 160 hours of training or more? I got this in and e-mail from the school "most transportation companies and their insurance providers will require that you have a total of 160 hours of training." r

All I am trying to figure out is once I have my class A license will employers hire me or is 160 hours a common number of training hours to be hired at

    thank you

it seems to vary greatly from company to company. most of the bigger "megas" ive looked into do require north of 100 hours training to be considered. check out some of the smaller companies around your area. you shouldn't have any problems finding something with 70 hours. that's a lot more then I had and I found something. I do think a clean mvr helped though.

I do live in an area with a TON of local truck jobs but I was looking to go OTR for awhile. I also have a clean mvr and never been arrested

maverick and falcon are two companies I can think of off hand that hire with just a cdl last I knew. I was literally 5 minutes from returning falcons call to set up orientation and drug screen when my first choice company called me to set up the same. I was willing to take anything just to get a start in trucking after being told no many many many times. im not sure if either of them are otr but its a start...

So even though I will have a class A and no OTR experience which means I would have to go through a training stage with me and a trainer for a big carrier for whatever period of time they still want you to have 100 or more hours of training (after having my cdl license) in order to then go into a truck with another trainer?

Well this is my thought, I think that was what you wanted, Find a school that will give you the 160 hours, 70 hours doesn't sound like a lot of training, get with a school that is ACCREDITED Meaning they are recognized for the things they teach and also their training record. They are very good at getting you properly trained, look to your local community college as well as your jobs corp or unemployment office, there are several programs that are paid for by the government to get more good drivers in this industry. Good Luck out here it is rough but once the newness wears off you ill do fine, Keep your record clean plan on wherever you land that you stay there co me hell or bounced pay checks that is the only reason you leave!!. Drive Safe!

Maverick will probably hire you. Also try Melton Truck Lines and CRST flatbed and Schneider or Falcon Transport. Apply online with all of them and in a couple of days you should have some job offers. With the 70 hour school, take what you can, then if you're not satisfied you can move on in 6-8 months.

So there you go 5 applications:

    Melton Truck Lines
    Maverick
    CRST
    Schneider
    Falcon Transport
