Can an O/O stay local and still make money?

Depending on the industry served, $100-$114 per hour of actual driving is not hard to achieve, and perhaps even on the lower end of the scale. By way of example, the last oilfield servicing company I worked for brought in $125/hour, 2 12 hour shifts a day, 7 days a week, for 20 trucks and trailers. We very rarely ventured outside of a 45 air mile radius. The smaller O/O's and 2-5 truck fleet owners were making the same. Granted rates have dropped since then, but that's just one example.

It's not BS, it's not magic. Just have to think outside the box.

Hopefully I am wrong in what I read in your post, and please correct me if I am wrong. Please dont say you get paid less than $100 per hour TOTAL time while out on duty with your truck. I do not see how any money can be made paying for and maintaining your truck and trailers at less than that. I have always kept a rock bottom set limit of $100 per hour, just to "get by".

No sense going round and around. You can't comprehend anyway. So I'll just withdraw from this thread and move on.

 

My two best months for net profit I was never more than 100 miles from the house, averaged 1100 miles a week and was home 6 nights a week.

That might be too difficult.

 

I think its great so many 'know it alls' cant see past the end of their nose. It makes it that much easier for me to profit my $4/mile after fuel, ins, plates, driver wage, truck payment, maintenance and taxes. I laugh at these guys who say it cant be done and call BS, thanks for helping to make my day!!!

Today I put in an 11 hr day, drove 235 miles, and profited $1300. BS you say? Good, Im glad you think so, it makes me happy to know I will have more freight like this then...

 

The flip side of that - that's your competition saying it can't be don't. Lowering the bar and shooting themselves in the foot before they've even turned a key with that straight jacket on their mind. They make it too easy for these customers.
