My husband and I are currently with Marten Transport, we have been with Marten for more than 5 years. My husband was involved in an accident this week in bad weather. He has a clean driving record and has not had an accident in more than 10 years until this. Randy Marten had the nerve to leave a message on his cell phone at 10pm at night. He did not ask if my husband was ok, or if anyone else was injured; all he wanted to do was cut my husband down. He let my husband know that he did not think he was much of a professional driver, that my husband had cost him money. When my husband called him back the next day to explain how the accident had happened, that other trucks, including a Marten truck, had either been involved or had witnessed the accident, "Mr. Randy Marten" basically accused my husband of lying to cover his butt and reiterated that all Randy was worried about was his loss. RANDY MARTEN DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE DRIVERS WHO WORK FOR HIM...HE ONLY CARES ABOUT THE MONEY HE GETS FOR HIS TOYS!!!

Don't expect OTR carriers to care if you had 40 years safe driving before a accident, which the industry always seems to think was 100% avoidable no matter what may have occurred in most cases.

It's not what you did in the past that counts these days, but what you did today and will do tomorrow that they care about.

Drivers who think that your average OTR carrier cares about them as anything more then a tool to do a job soon find out just how much they care if you take money out of their wallet versus the other way around.

Hopefully the people that care about you are at HOME because thinking the company you work for won't throw you under the bus if it benefits them would be foolish at best.

That is every company, because they never tell you how good a job you are doing....they want you to bring in the money for them at any cost....and God forbid, don't ask for a raise...you think they would care about the drivers because WE are the ones making the money for THEM......yours is a sad story and I really feel for you both...

After I got back on the road again, I applied to a few of the companies out there to see what they paid.

A recruiter called from Marten and tried her best to sign me on. I told her that I would have to call her back, as I was at the dock, getting loaded.

When I called her back, she told me about orientation, driving with a trainer, etc ....

I told her that I had 5 years experience and I had been a truck driver instructor in the Navy. That didn't matter.

I asked about the pay, and then told her that I already made .36 a mile as a company driver. When she asked me if I was sure about the rate, I thanked her and told her that I didn't need to take up anymore of her time.

Since then, I have become an owner operator and stayed on with the same company that put me back on the road.

Other than the call from the recruiter, I have had no other contact with Marten.

After reading about the accident from Gearing Grandma I can see what she says is true. You start off with 12 points and if you call a tow truck because you are stuck in a pot-hole at Coors in Golden, CO (rain and snow) everywhere. Take a ruler with you if you drive for Marten:biggrin_25523: After being stuck for 3-4 hours I called R/S and they called a Tow Truck less then 2 secs I was out of the hole (I did have the axles locked funny because they did not really lock together). In the morning "Risk Dept" called me to ask what happened, I told them and they said "NO! Problem" after I told them that Coors knew about the problem, I wish I did.
Then I hit a small snow bank, it was taller then I thought because it took out the bottom step (drvrs side). Then I whopper I hit a light assembly on a tanker, OK I reported it and was told it will take a week to ten days to get the report back frm the counties mounties of the Rio Grande County, this was on the 10th of Feb, I did everything per Marten concerning this problem and was told, "There shouldn't be a problem". So on the 12th of Feb I made both drops and headed to the yard, (I was there from 12 pm to 4:30 pm) OK head home then I was Q-comed that I have to call the service dept, so I did they told me HR needed to talk to me. Funny because I had just spent a good amount of time already at the yard. I was told that I was being fired because I had ran out of points and they had finished with the accident review. I had no idea that the tow truck cost me 6 points, the bottom step was 3 points and they told me the lights of the truck was 10 points (OK that one I knew was comming). Marten didn't get the report or pictures of the location, the cops had said in the report if there were lights at this location then contact would have been avoidable. NO! investigation was done. So be very careful they will not tell you if your points are goiong away are way they were taken. Good luck for all of those still working for Marten.

May Trucking has the same point system but it is 2 points for speeding tickets and 6 points for minor prevents. Most drivers got canned for log violations when I was there and you can start out with the company with less then 12 points if you had a minor prevent on your DAC or tickets that are still on the books. I started there with only 6 points because of my minor prevent with IDC was only a year old. I was told to be careful because of starting out with 6 points.

After driving all but 1 day accident free and 2 days getting a ticket since 1992 and going back out for 6 months OTR for May. I still had company's telling me they would have to pull strings to hire me because of my past. The minor prevent was almost 2 years ago and cost $1800 for IDC to settle and my 2 tickets are more then 5 years ago. But I got a Local gig now that lets me keep my OTR status if I need it in the future so the OTR company's can keep hiring students for all I care. They don't seem to want experience anymore. Just the cheapest driver who will stay out the longest.

    Hi Gypsy!
I tried to send you a PM but I don't have enuff posts to qualify, so.....

Are you still driving for Marten?
The reason I ask is I am considering a dedicated route with them. Your experience may help me so if you'd care to share, that'd be cool... thanks
