This is my point....it should my choice as an adult. Who am I hurting by not wearing a seatbelt? Speeding can affect others, running red lights can affect others, drinking and driving can affect others....

And the medical cost arguement is laughable! My health care costs as a non smoker, non-drinker over my lifetime should be less than people who partake in these activities, so we should protect them from themselves and ban smokes and booze?! Maybe we can criminalize fat people who eat fast food!

Wasn't it New Hamp (one of those east states) that repealled the seatbelt law for adults and saw no increase in incidents or costs? The ones that don't use continued to not use.

    poppapump1332 Thanks this.

i used to think that way until I watched the pain in my parents faces as they watched thier daughter deteriorate in a coma for four years before getting the legal right to sign a DNR and then watch her choke to death after they turned off the machines.

all from a relatively minor accident where if belts were worn we could sit around at Christmas and laugh about "that time when..."

i realized its not all about me, and how such a minor inconvenience has already saved my family from burying their other child.

    your misreading it PB,

You only enter the DIP if you cross a threshold over a two year point where you have accumulated enough demerits to enter the program.

As such unlike in manitoba where just 1 speeding ticket affects your insurance rates immediately in saskatchewan SGI would allow you 9 over a two year period after which you would be enrolled in the DIP program or face having your claim rated discount adjusted.

Also note that in sk speeding has no points on your license unless it was in a school or construction zone.

I am searching on the web right now and cannot find it, but awhile ago they floated the idea of increasing rates for traffic infractions ala manitoba and seriously it was scary how fast people got out pitchforks. Most people here like the system as it is and resist any changes to SGI that can impact them. Look at how fast the motorcycle rate increases went out the window!

they're trying to. A few years ago there was a cause to have motorcyclists wear seatbelts....
Sorta kinda like the same logic that wrote HOS stuff.....

I like wearing seatbelts because I stay in my seat. I hate bouncing and hitting my head on the roof!

On the other hand, "IF" you were disabled so bad for the rest of your life, it's everyone that pays into the health care system that helps keep your alive.

If seatbelt use is so imperative then why havnt they mandated seatbelt use on SCHOOL BUSES years ago????? Obviously they think our children dont need to, so why does an adult need to??

    You're potentially hurting many people.

That belts job is to keep you in your seat in an accident.

You're not wearing your belt, you get into an accident and are thrown from your seat. Your vehicle is now free to go where it wants. It hits other vehicles or pedestrians who may be in the area.

You are wearing your belt, you get into an accident, and because you are still in your seat, you can keep your vehicle from causing more injuries and deaths.

Your vehicle is already uncontrolled if in an accident that caused you to be ejected...roll over or plowing into something to exit the windshield.

That is why you wear a seatbelt. So you don't get ejected. So you have control of your vehicle in an accident.
