This one is easy. Get an Android smartphone and root it. Then install a tether app and away you go. Well, you need the laptop and the printer too, but that stuff is cheap nowadays.
I recommend going with a virgin mobile setup. You get 4g, 1200mins talk time, unlimited texting and data for 45 a month, no contract. Been using it for about three years now and as long as i have a good signal, I have Google juice for my laptop and tablet.
If you don't know what rooting a smartphone is, google it and find out just how much the american cell companies jack around with the phones you buy from them. You'll be shocked when you find out how much they throttle the power and features, just so they can charge you extra for things that are allready built into the phone.
Best part about it is its perfectly legal and acceptable to wrest that control back from them. Its your phone, not theirs.
FYI, if you own an iphone, its not called rooting, but "jailbreaking." Dunno why people own those overpriced POS, but you can get full use from them too, and its a pretty simple process that takes maybe twenty minutes.

I 'member in the early days of ye old internet you would see little internet cubicles at oasis's on the tollways but that kind of went by the wayside when laptops became fashionable. As truckon mentioned, likely hotel lobbies would be a good bet. I suppose you could holler on the cb at a truckstop and see if one of your fellow drivers would help you out as well.

You're best bet is to buy your own. It will pay for itself. You can get a scanner/copier/print for $99 @ bestbuy and you cant get an app for a smart phone where can print from your phone. A laptop, personal wifi, and a printer are invaluable while on the road and well worth any cost that you find detrimental, in my opinion

I always carry a computer, printer and my own WIFI connection. It's cheaper and easier. Why can't you buy? Is there some issue with buying?

That's about it for where that will happen. Libraries are usually not in truck friendly locations, and "Internet cafes" require you to have your own computer. Need to have your own toys on the road.

Some larger companies may have computers available at their terminals for drivers to use, but what you can do on them is often limited.

There are some places where one can get refurbished computers for a cheaper price than brand new, such as Tiger Direct, New Egg, and even Walmart. I just bought two printers at Walmart last year for about $35 each.

The wifi available at the truck stops is usually pretty slow . . . dial up comes to mind, so better off getting hooked up with your own as soon as possible. Just be sure to look at the "licensed tower usage" portion of the agreements, as we ran into a problem with US Cellular, as their "Licensed Network" shrunk from the time we started with them for wifi, to early this year.

Staples, office max, micro center and some "more up with the times" truck stops. Many hotels offer things like this too
