As far as a starting company goes, I would suggest checking out Gordon Trucking Inc. This is the company that I started with. They have an excellent training program. They do not run you and the trainer as a team. The trainer is there to observe, citique(sp?), and instruct. When I was with them they had pretty much the best starting pay. Btw, they mainly run the 11 western states. I got onto the southwest regional fleet a month after I started(it's not advertised, and I found out about it by talking with another driver). I basically ran ca and az. I did a lot of vegas to phoenix runs for example. I was also home pretty much every weekend.

I went to their web site, but they don't have the pay chart posted anymore. I believe that I was at .34 cpm starting out. You get 1 cpm raise after 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. I can't remember exactly...it has been 4 years since I worked for Gordon Trucking. The southwest regional fleet I was on payed the same as any other fleet btw...there is no variation...such as working for werner or some such.

These days I'm hauling livestock. I run about 485 miles per day at $205 per trip....5 days a week(home every night and off fri & sat).

Thanks, my friends is also coming up now sometime in march. As long as he does well he wont need to goto the C.D.L truck school in Az. He was looking for options because its starting to get crowded at our school.
Checked my messages and he said its still on the table to go in a couple of weeks.

I just finished orientation today and now I play the waiting game for a trainer. We'll see how it goes.
