Just a few quick questions on being a regional driver.
1. As a new driver, can I expect to be abused, to test how good I am going to be. I can handle heavy grunt work and I will work my ##### off but I do NOT like being abused just to prove myself. Or am I just worrying and being a whiny b!*@#.
2. If I want to work for a company that is out of state, how does that work. Do I drive there and pick up a truck and come back to drive clear back home or do they tend to let you use the truck to go home. Or should I look for a local company which reduces possible hires.
3. Any good advise on companies that are regional to the plains and have tuition reimbursement would be helpful. I am out of Council Bluffs Iowa, but Omaha Nebraska is right across the river.
Soon to be regional driver looking for a few answers.

1. All drivers get abused.
2. If its far they send you a bus ticket or plane ticket. You get home every few weeks or weekends. Some want you to park truck at a secured location. Some don't care where you park it.
If it's close to your house you drive your car there and leave your car at the yard or your spouse take you and pick you up when you get home.
3. Not sure about tuition reimbursement, but I'd check out Hill's brothers transportation. There's tons of companies in your area. I'd stay close to home if I were you.towermja Thanks this. -
Werner is right across the river from you and they give tuition reimbursement.......

Thank you all. The abuse comments are funny, especially Werner. That was one of the top 3 my brother in law said stay away from. Also it sounds like staying close to home is the best idea. Last but not least I have been looking local and Hill Bros is on my radar.

You might also want to check out Crete Carriers, located in Lincoln, Ne. They seem like a very good company with very good benefits and some regional opportunities. AND, I think, they have recently started hiring and training newly licensed drivers.

Im in Omaha, went through JTL last fall. I tried to get on with Hill but they jerked me around. They gave me a start date, then moved it back a week, then moved it back 2 more weeks. So I ended up working for Schneider. Crete for some reason wont take folks from JTL fresh out of school. I have no idea why not. I felt like I was better prepared than most folks I was in orientation with. SNI has been ok. The oc I work out of is in Des Moines and they are good folks. There is a drop lot in south O where I park for hometime. I nearly have my year in and when I do I am going to look for a better job, but SNI has been a decent place to start. They do tuition reimbursement, but I went through school on a WIA grant so I didnt use the reimbursement.
