Sometimes you have to stand up and say enough is enough its only going to get worse unless we stand up and fight

I may be a little off with the price of a truck but the fact still remains that the responsibilities placed on us far exceeds any given to the unskilled, disposable labor that is paid sometimes more than double what we earn. That is indisputable. I may be off base with the week off scenario, but that still does not negate the fact that we are not paid or recognized for the coontributions and sacrifices we make to keep the North American economy running. It's time we came up with a voice loud enough for the uninformed to hear. Like the bumper sticker says "If you bought it a truck brought it."

Boy are you late to the party. I suggested, for several months, that the 1st week of July when it was a short week anyway and the new HOS were kicking in would be the ideal time to shut down for the week and spend the 4th of July holiday with friends and family. No freight movement. I did my part, I shut down that week. Sorry, you had your chance. I am not going to do it again, unless it is something that benefits me.

FACT is, the megas only account for about 8% of the trucks out there... 92% of the trucks are SMALL M/C's with 1-25 trucks... I get that figure from OOIDA... may be a BIT dated (about a year ago, I believe), but the ONLY reason the megas can have such a huge impact on this industry is because THEY can walk into YOUR Congressman's office with a briefcase full of "campaign" cash... the 92% of us don't have either the time or the millions to compete... typical "tail wags the dog" paradigm.

I'm still a fan of the MANDATORY 30 minute shutdown being staged at NOON, EST on ALL highways, across all lanes and shoulders... ONE day is all it would take... trust me on this... 1.5 million trucks setting the brakes at NOON EST and blocking off EVERY major highway whilst we take our MANDATORY 30 minute break.... the news crews would run the story non-stop for weeks. The French truckers drive into Paris with a few loads of rotten tomatoes and it makes international headlines... think about it... how about next Wed?? Works for me!

Strike is the only way for us out of this #### hole. But by ######## on the forum it will not happen.

Proposing strike here is not gonna do anything as not that many read those threads and who does not all will do it. There is a lot of ####### in trucking this days.

If you really want to achieve something and think you have resorces for that, open a campaign, unite truckers first, then spread the work all around( adds, forums, truckstops.)

A lot of us has to be on the same page, ready to shut down for week at least.

But it has to be a union, so we have the resorces and backbone to fight anything in court.

Not allowed to unionize as a whole... R. Reagan made THAT illegal in 1983.

Nope... just truckers... transportation Act of 1983 which Ronnie signed into law, makes it illegal for truckers to have a nation-wide union... also exempted us from fair labor standards act, overtime and all kinds of awesome goodies...
