Just how often should motor mounts need to be replaced?
Our truck was just in for PM and a couple of other maintenance items, and the mechanic said that the front motor mount/s need to be replaced.
This was suppose to have been done a bit over 6 months ago, right after the inframe was done. This was all prior to our purchasing the truck.
We are going to ask the carrier we are buying the truck from to look over the records to see IF it was actually done, or which one/s was/were done.

Mine have 1 million miles on them...
Lilbit Thanks this. -
We'll definitely have to look into just which ones were replaced, if any then. The truck is close to the million mile mark, so we know things are going to need to be done, but I don't want to be paying for things to be done twice that shouldn't need to be.truckon Thanks this.

Yep, front mounts should almost be good for the life of a engine. Rear mounts go a little quicker, but you are still looking at years of life span, not months. I bet you were charged, or told they were replaced, but actually they weren't.
Lilbit Thanks this. -
it varies from truck to truck. best way to see is if there is a gap on the bottom of front bushings and the crossmember has shiny metal where the rubber bushing rubs. the back motor mounts look at the large bolt that goes through them if it looks like it has been moving (ie rust) or the rubber in the mount blocks looks torn, time to replace.bullhaulerswife and Lilbit Thank this.

Freight-shaker columbia with the crappy mercedes engine in it. They showed the other half the one/s that need to be replaced, and he agrees, the concern is that these were already "replaced" ie billed for replacement, but never actually replaced.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

I had to replace the front mount on my Columbia with a Mercedes at 800 thousand miles.

2007 Columbia, LH motor mount on a Mercedes 450 cautioned on last MVI, 832,000km....replaced it while they had it...

The Century/ Columbia or late Classic chassis has a "known issue" with rear engine mounts. I had one done for an MVI and the both done when I had the clutch done. Shops local to me always do them as part of a clutch job.
I never understand when people refer to the Mercedes as "crappy" To me it's been 8 years of awesomeness. -
I think it's a state of mind, either stuck with it wanting big power or those that haven't even driven one. I like mine...*knock wood*
Good to know about the engine mounts....I do as much of my own as possible, do you know if it is just a jack to lift the engine to replace them? They did have to cut mine off this time.
