A 244" wheelbase on a SB will be fine IMHO. I have seen a few and there seems to be as much room as I have on the EX. Consider that I also have the long tanks AND the big step boxes too....And still have enough room for a 18" step box on one side, generator on the othe, and a box headache rack.
260" wheelbase EX, 4'7" drive axle spacing. with the big tanks and boxes. Smaller tanks and/or smaller boxes would net a lot more room still. That generator enclosure is @20" wide.

I still would go with a 290" on an EX model. I want room for a 36" step on the drivers side, and then a APU and a 18" on the passenger side..... I like my storage. Now if all i carried were chains and binders, i wouldn't need as much. But when you have to carry all those, plus 20 2" straps, 20 4" straps, blankets, tarps, padding, edge protectors, tolls, so an and so on... you need lots of boxes lol
