Sly, I did a full 10 the night before. Conway uses Qualcomm, which is programmed to track break hours per FMCSA regulations. The one thing that did cool my enthusiasm was that splitting the break, when you do take that 2 hours off to complete, you're still burning the 14hr clock on that day's work hours. The days I split, I had a 1,900 mile pull and there was no way I was going to use 14 hours of on duty time. Still, I think I learned something, and no longer fear the complexities of the split break. I the knowledge gives me another tool to use in my quest for glory. And income.
Split your break

I was figuring you were on e-logs.
Yeah, the split-break is a handy thing to use. Especially if you get held up at a customer and have to make an early appointment.
If a shipper holds you 3 hours, and at least two straight are Line 1, you can then just do an 8hr sleeper and start up earlier in the morning to make the delivery, etc.
Sometimes if I have a cross-country load I'll do a split-sleeper just to start my clock earlier in the day until I've moved it. For instance, picking up in AZ/CO, etc and going to the northeast, I might not even get loaded and rolling until 5-6-7pm local time. But, my appointment in MA is 6am local time. If I sat at a shipper for 2 hours, I'll log an 8, and do the split sleeper for a day or two to get my clock starting earlier in the day so it's not as hard to move the time around the day to be rolling early enough for that east coast delivery. -
Minus X number of minutes. When clock & log don't jive, we get called to the place. Old people behind computers. Your 19 minutes over service, here, & here your 22 minutes over the limit. "say 3 I'm sorry, then go get me a Danish .

Funny line.

Drivers, thanks very much for your ideas and experiences. I've learned quite a bit from them, new uses and applications. I also like to run early AM and drive my start times back by not stopping much. I can now also use the split to get there. I like to run about 4-5am, get in my 600-650, knock off and park like a sane person. Not that anybody doing OTR full time could be sane in any real sense.

The same could be said for people who get up before 4 a.m.. (just kidding).

Boy does this thread really point out the fact that I have a LOT to learn about logging, LOL. I am pretty good at math but this was pretty much greek to me. Gonna have to google a website where I can learn a bit about this stuff so I can have a head start. Thanx for waking me up.

I've been using Driver's Daily Log on my laptop for years. It's so easy to screw up split sleeper berth, that I need all the help I can get.

I used to use DDL when we were on paper. It was so easy and it really helped me to learn the split break inside and out.
Ever try explaining the split break to a person who has never tried to use it? You get more blank stares, and a million questions. -
And, 9 times out of 10, I'd be wrong.
