Need work? South Texas Oilfield hiring like crazy!

It will vary widely from company to company and even yard to yard within a company. Some frac, cement, and coiled tubing companies will work you for 2-3 weeks followed by a week or so off. Some vacuum truck drivers work a 4/1 schedule or a 4/2, 6/1, etc etc. I believe most crude haulers are lucky to get 2 days off each week. There's no way to know until you get hired but I wouldn't count on having more than 1-2 days off most weeks IMHO.

 

can you shout some light here . i have a cdl since 2007 that never used it . clean criminal and no tickets at all.

May I ask where the busy areas are right now?

 

Ben Gunn, you are obviously in the area of west Texas and not the city of West Texas. I say that so you are aware that I am aware. I lived in Odessa in the early 80's. What is your intuition, would you go to that area (Odessa, Pecos, Big Lake, etc) or south Texas? I know its an opinion and not an exact science. Just your best guess based on your experience. Thanks.

 

Your powers of observation are mighty, Greywolfe. I listed my location before I even knew the town of West, TX existed .... I should probably change it to Midland. I've been in the Permian for a little over a year and I spent the last three months in the Eagle Ford before returning to Midland. From what I've seen there's plenty of work in both. IMO it's easier for a newbie to get hired in the Permian than in the Eagle Ford. I came back because Odessa/Midland is about the only area where you can live in a decent size town and work in the oil field. I know there are a few companies running out of Corpus and San Antonio but the majority of them are in towns like George West, Kenedy, etc. For me that would have meant commuting 1-1.5 hours each way every day, or spending 4-6 days in a man camp and only seeing my family on days off. In Midland I live 9 miles from the yard and I'm home every night. Now if only the Gulf of Mexico was just a little closer ........

 

So how hard is it to find housing in odessa midland area now?

jvar. that is not insane. You've been crying about this same thing for 2 years now ! you say that you've had a CDL since 2007 ? right ? With no experience ! thats a long time for someone with experience, much less no experience. If someone offers you refresher training you should strongly consider it. Or don't. Your call. But take a hint, quit crying so much and do something positive.
