All it takes is a hell of a lot of practice..
-
Yup, it's do-able, but requires a lot of attention, they turn faster than you can blink.
The reasons are;
-western Canada does not allow lift axles! MB, SK, AB, & BC
-this makes the "3rd axle" of a Tri-group without having a Tri-drive, this is a twofold reason;
-Tri-drive is always Tri-drive, nice option, but expensive, both in price & maintenance
-a Tri-drive is only a 9' overall spacing, this spacing does not allow as much legal or permit-able weight. A single axle jeep has a 6' spacing along with the standard 4'6" drive spacing makes 10+' therefore allowing more weight. 23000kgs max legal for 9', 24000kgs max legal for 10' spacing.
correct, they are not allowed in Cali, a tri group must be equidistant spacing, these are not.saddlesore Thanks this. -
for those who are wondering what we are talking about..this jeep is a solid axle (no suspension ) rough ride and is #### quick when trying to back up.. needed it to raise the belly of the stretch RGN off the ground. 50' in the well, 3 inches ground clearance, 106k gross wt.

cetanediesel and 281ric Thank this. -
That trailer is way overloaded, it's completely decambered and looks like it's going to snap clean in two. Unless you want to be looking for a new trailer, I'd suggest not loading that heavy when you're stretched out that far
-
No it is NOT overloaded, rated for 90k closed up & 80k in the well when stretched, prob. is that the machine did not have enough structural backbone to support it's self & all stretch trailers get sway-back when extended.
This is caused by the clearances required in the inner vs outer frame rails to allow the extension.cetanediesel and haulhand Thank this. -
Saddlesore is absolutely correct. I've only had one stretch that didn't get a belly when stretched out. Problem was it had so much camber in it it was absolutely useless unless you were putting 100k on it anything less would just sit on the three foot arch. That trailer looks just fine.saddlesore Thanks this.

The load in itself was a frame. You could have put wheels under it and used the load as a trailer. And 106,000 lbs gross is a light load. Now if there was no frame work, but pieces that totally depended on the trailer, it would then be questionable.
-
The frame design that the mfr. used to support the machine was insufficient, hence could not support itself. I suggested that on the next one they use a removable (for transport only ) sub frame to stiffen up the base so it would not go "possum belly" during transport.

Can you still drive in these provinces with a lift axle just so long as it's down?
