Don't worry about it. It's just an adjustment. Your body knows when it needs sleep, Your Dispatcher don't care. Most don't. If you need a nap pull over. 98% of drivers don't know, Dispatch can change an ETA. I'm Safety, O/O and know the game. If you want to sue me, take a Number. Nobody wants damaged freight.

I rely on my cell phone alarm clock, which starts out at low volume and increases in volume. I have the overall volume set on "STUN" (highest setting) so there's really no chance at all that I'll not hear it, even with foam plugs in my ears.

On longer hauls I am also starting to get a little smarter regarding managing my time to take advantage of day running in the hottest parts of the country. Starting out as the sun rises and ending the day close to sunset is a good way to get good sleep, with nature's biorhythms. If for any reason I have to suddenly switch to night running then that calls for an adjustment to sleep patterns.

One thing I learned when hopping from country to country on business trips, across time zones, is that just like trucking you need to get your sleep when the opportunity presents itself. The advantage for a solo trucker is that you have a comfortable bunk a couple of feet away, all you need is a good parking spot and you are good for sleep. Those business trips from Hades often featured trying to sleep on a night flight en route to the next morning meeting, or catching a nap in the back seat of a car.

I use melatonin the 10mg tablet, you can get it in 2mg form too. I take it a s soon as I stop for the day and it kicks in usually an hour later. I can wake up 4, 6 or even 8 hours later and not have the hangover those other pills create if you don't get a full 8. I'm a horrible sleeper, I don't stay asleep the whole night and toss and turn constantly. That's why I like them the most. The only thing consistent about my schedule is its inconsistent.

as for an alarm clock I use my phone and its set to sound like a phone, it sits right next to my head.

Get the "Screaming Meemie" alarm clock. Some truck stops have them.
