I have a box mounted outside by the spotlight .its rediculous what 50 bucks for a box and your broom handle will get you as far reception.
I'm such a tightass
(You screw in your broom while you are parked don't be a deep) -
I dont even have a tv, I use my laptop and just watch movies, do you guys even get enough channels out on the road to make it worth it?
-
U can get a 19 inch tv with built in DVD player for 200 bucks at Walmart. Also I just use an old jack in the truck that runs to pass side cb antenna.

Most of the time, yes. Most major markets you can get 20+ channels. With DTV you now often get many sub channels off the main ones, usually in 480i and not in English tho LOL. I like to catch local news when I can. Failing that, there are usually a few channels showing old sitcoms or movies. Good stuff to fall asleep to.
Problem is (good problem to have that is) I am usually not sitting long enough to get bored enough to hook up my tv and see what's on. I'm watching this thread with interest as I'm currently using a cheap set of rabbit ears tucked up high in the roof of my sleeper. It's ok most times but requires some fiddling to get tuned in. Then, soon as you get the picture right, another truck pulls in to the next space or passes by and the picture goes to crap again. -
im at home right now doing a 34, maybe I might grab my daughters tv which is a 17" I think, when im on the road she is with her mother so she isnt using it, I also have a $50 HD antenna I got a few months back that was never used, its one of those flat panel hang on the wall types so I can always take both and see if I use it on the road. I could always split my laptop screens and using the HDMI to hook my laptop to the tv for movies while the laptop screen can still be used for internet.
I would need to get me another plug in inverter though -
If you're considering utilizing an old qualcom mount, you may look at a winegard Sensar IV unit. These are used on RV's and actually pull in signals in fringe areas pretty well, (high VHF and UHF) it's 12 volt boosted. Main thing is to rig up a something to clip on your steering wheel to remind you to lower it before taking off. Height and outside the vehicle is the best setup you can get. The higher the better. A few feet above trailer height is ideal and this Sensar will do that. Ideally you should have a signal meter to verify direction as they will need to point to the towers but so long as you know generally where the closest towers are, you can eye-ball the direction to peak the tuning but many stations put their towers in other locations.

i have a usb tv tuner. need a replacement though and they don't seem to be around anymore. but it allowed me to watch tv on my laptop.
most of the times it wasn't english though. and reception can be difficult. as trucks pass by constantly.
i've got an analog tuner also. that thing worked like a champ. too bad the gooberment screwed that up.
wish they made something like that for satellite tv. i'd buy that in a heartbeat. -
I finally hit the road again today and took my tv with me, at a customer while waiting to be unloaded for a couple hours I watched the news and stuff so it was a nice change, I got a TON of channels in Montebello, CA but most were freaking spanish or asian channels. First used my expensive hd antenna then tried the built in antenna in the truck, I got better reception with the built in one. I was going to get my nice outdoor digital one out of the storage that cost me $150 and my wife told me when I was looking for it that she gave it to her grandparents a couple weeks ago since we never used it pfft

I use the small v type mirror mount on my truck with a vizio tv,works great most of the time, but do have trouble with tiling,(were the digital picture scrambles) when other trucks pass by or park next to me,thinking of trying an antenna booster with it and see if that will take care of the problem.
