In a perfect world yes, but we all know that there is nothing perfect in this world.
Sometimes I don't think it matters, in fact most that fail could have $500,000 sitting in the bank, burn thru it and still go broke. I started with nothing, I didn't even have the money for a down payment on a truck, there are ways to play the numbers and show a down payment, if the other party is willing. You can start with nothing and make it, you just need to be able to manage money.

i started with less then $500 in the bank... but my equipment was paid for... having equipment on credit +no savings might be the new American (me me now now) way but that's half the reason we have cheap freight, these guys can't afford to sit..

That argument goes the other way also, guys with no equipment payments have said they can haul cheap(er) than others and still make money because they have no payments. Myself it doesn't matter, wether I have a loan against a piece of equipment or not, I will not pull freight below a certain dollar amount. There is always the inevitable replacement or rebuild that needs to be in everyone's mind.

You do realize that it is 13 years old and not worth 1/3 of that price. You got 0 down but you are paying for it by paying too much for the truck. Oh and do the math on the 18% financing to see what you will pay over the life of the loan. I just bought a 2014 Columbia glider for 85,000. I bet you pay almost as much with all your payments as I pay. Thirteen year old truck will be VERY expensive to maintain also. Be careful, I hate to see someone get hurt.

I would gladly pay 30K for a 2000 379, if the specs, mileage and condition were all there. Could be a way better deal than 30K for a 6 year old Columbia fleet turn in. Just MHO.
