    O.K. a Couple of Questions ?

I know you have to have ' Skirts ' on Trailers to go into California.

But I wanted to know as far as Trucks go,does a Truck have to have D.E.F.,D.P.F.,or BOTH ? to Be Legal.

Also,Is there a Age Limit to a Truck ? allowed in California....I'm assuming not, because I know they have A LOT of ' Dinosuars ' that Pull Trailers that come into the Ports, along the Coastal Cities.

    Unless they are Expempt ?

I Really Love california as a State....I know most Drivers I have come across don't ! Due to The C.A.R.B. ( and other Reason's ).

But to me It's a Beuatiful State, that has almost Every Ecosystem you can think of : Mountains,Deserts,Oceans,Forest's,Etc....

I just want to know what's allowed,in case I Buy my Own Truck down the Road....I know Leasing through a Company that goes there, would take care of All of this.

    But I Don't Trust Company Lease Program's....To many Obstacle's !

    But that's another Thread !

    Keep on Truckin ' !

As of January 1 2014: If your truck is model year

2007 and older = NO GO.
    2008-2010 = Good till 2021
2011 and newer good till at least 2025.

now this one had me laughing my zza off!

    Idling Reduction Program

    • Applies to heavy-duty diesel engines with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) greater than 10,000 lbs. that operate on California highways including operators of both in-state and out-of-state registered sleeper berth equipped trucks.
    • Requires manual or automatic shutdown after five minutes of idling.
    • 2008 and newer model year engines must be equipped with a non-programmable engine shutdown system that automatically shuts down the engine after five minutes of idling.
    • Immediate shutdown is required at or within 100 feet of a school or school activity site. Restart no more than 30 seconds before departing, regardless of fuel type.

That is the one that gets me. But on the bright side, most of the engines that are choked to death with the EPA & carb's brilliance only run a few minutes before heading back to the shop anyway.

Latest word, as I understand it, is that there will be no one year exemption for single truck o/o's. So next year everything pre 2008 is no go UNLESS you have retro-fitted a DPF. What years and engines can be retro-fitted is still not clear (at least to me). If you are retro-fitted, or have a truck with a factory DPF, but no SCR/DEF, you are good until 2024.

Whether this will still be the case in January and how they think they are going to enforce it is beyond me. I was talking to my lender today, discussing my options & I'm not going to do a danged thing til I absolutely have to. And I may just move to Idaho & find a job where I don't have to run CA if it comes to that.

Just took one of ours into the shop, the prerequisite is a 1996 year engine or newer, AND has to pass the electronic data logging system(only they see the data, and only they will decide if it passes). You run your truck for 24 hours of your normal day, while this thing records your exhaust temps.
You take the logger back into the shop, you get a call the following day with a pass or no pass. If it passes, you get yourself a 14K muffler, it it faills, well you get to decide on career change or the option to purchase yourself a new one. Dont forget you need 20% down for a new one. You also get warned, the fines for running your failed truck in CA, is $1,000 Per Day after Jan 1 2014.
