Just completely went through and installed a good used tripac that i had sitting around for a year. Almost everything is new on it besides fuel pump, starter and a/c compressor. I finally got it on running/charged this weekend. It ran beautiful and froze me out while it ran at home for an hour. Turn it on while in texas today and it starts right up, runs for 20minutes and then starts to die, almost shuts down then runs fine for another minute or two. It has 16k hours on it and doesnt smoke at all or anything wierd. It stumbled chugged and died once or twice. Has anybody run across this or a bad fuel pump on theirs? Im thinking that might be it? Cant find anything else wrong, even the hoses/filters and clamps pick up tube are new.

most likely culprit is there is a kink in the inline fuel filter line
it is easy to restrict the fuel flow when installing that filter

Mine did that for a while until I blew out the small inline screen filter behind the engine near the bottom of the unit. If yours is the same as mine, you can take the line off the large spin on filter assembly from the pump and see how much fuel is pushed through.

You should do it before it starts up and the pump kicks in for a second to prime the system. You should get a really good stream out of that line.

like most diesel engines these circulate 6-8 times as much fuel as they burn
to lubricate and cool injectors and injection pump
so good fuel flow is critical

I will try pulling the line and see how good it flows. Filters are both brand new. I dont have any kinks in the lines or sharp corners either. It does seem to get worse when the engine is hot. Thanks

i am not familiar with the fuel pump on these things but if it seems to be worse when it gets hot, I would check to see if there isn't a glitch of some sort in the fuel pump, It works fine when it is cold but then when it warms up it slacks off this could be because ofworn parts in the pump as well as maybe a small air leak that it closes up when it is cold then opens when it is warmed up, I'm no expert just my 1/2 cents worth for ya!. Be Safe.

Check the plastic lines to the injectors. I have had them come loose at the connector nuts, and have had the plastic lines themselves get rubbed through. The unit would get enough fuel to start, but then sound like it was missing when the load of the compressor kicked on. They would suck air, but never leaked to leave a mark.

Still nothing. I checked supply and return lines over completely. This one has steel injector lines. Changed fuel pump and ran unit with supply line and watched flow. Fuel flow was very good and no bubbles. Ran the tripac for about 6 hours with no problems. Then the next day ran for two hours and it started acting up and then died. It was middle of the day and hot out. Only thing left is the injection pump or shutoff solenoid. Anybody else ever have tripac injection pump problems?
