I recently graduated truck driving school, and went to work for Werner Enterprises. I was put in a crappy hotel in Allentown, PA, with roommates who were nasty and who stole stuff. The ac in the hotel did not work. The hotel staff did not want to let you switch rooms. Their staff was very rude. The staff at the Werner terminal were rude. I had been there 4 days and upon the fourth day I was suspended because Werner got a bad job reference back on me. It has been almost a month and Werner still has not made a decision about the matter. They lied to me about sign on bonus. I was supposed to have a $700 sign on bonus upon completion of training (according to the recruiter that came to my school) but Werner says no it's only $500. This company sucks. I used to work for truck stops and always heard bad things about Werner. I should have believed them!

You're not telling anybody here what they already don'y know. You better start getting use to not being so picky about the motels and staff because ill tell you right now,its not going to get better.Companies are not there to please you. They could care less how rude they are.I never stayed at that so called hotel but I did stay at the fabulous Ben Franklyn motel in Omaha.Deffinately nothing to brag about.Having bad roomates is not Werners fault. You should have called Werner tell them the situation and they would have gave you another room. They did with me.My roommate was a natural born slob and that just aint happening with me.I walked in and right back out used the hotels phone and 5 min later got my own room.Don't wait around for Werners decision. You haven't heard by now so chances are you are out and time to move on.Next company do research, ask questions to forum members, drivers that have drove for that company, look at their website.Dont believe everything a recruiter says.Their job is to hire ppl and lie if they have to then you're on your own

Werner is a nothing but trash & anyone who thinks they're just like everyone else as in saying the entire industry is modeled after these clowns is sadly mistaken.

Don't sit at home waiting. Some companies don't hire recent grads if it's been months since they drove in school.

You can check company's out at Glassdoor.com It has a professional insight to the company instead of everyone ragging on a forum, about a Co. When I was looking for a company and found this forum, it seemed as though ALL companies were bad cause NO ONE had anything good to say. Which is still true. lol Check Glassdoor.com out.

jcmclm2010, what's your status now? You have to be proactive and make phone calls. Trust me, if you can get 1 or 2 years of clean driving with them then you can hire on to any company you want after that. If you get a good trainer then you are set. I'd be on that phone every day talking to the HR department. You have to be like an encyclopedia salesman and don't take no for an answer. I've been with Werner now for two years. Six months as a company driver and the last 18 as an owner/operator. I run safe, deliver damage free, and on time. Werner has been good to me so I am a little biased. But then again, you could do well with most companies if you run safe and deliver the goods on time damage free. Don't give up, you'll make it if you stick with it.

When I graduated from trucking school I decided on Werner. My orientation was in Allentown and the people at the terminal (for the most part) were very nice. The hotel i stayed in wasn't the greatest, but what do you expect. Especially when you are only there for about 3 days. Sounds to me like you are a little cupcake. I've been with Werner for almost a year now and they have followed through on each and every promise. Once I completed my training (6 weeks) I was OTR for about 3 months. Then I was offered the opportunity to work on a dedicated account that runs about 30 miles from my home. I leave out late Sunday afternoon and I'm home usually by Friday afternoon. I'm guaranteed a minimum every week, so if I don't get a lot of miles I still make a nice amount of money. Most of the drivers on my account feel the same way about the company and many have been with them for over 5 years. Anyone who reads these posts should always keep in mind that all experiences in life are what YOU make of them. If you work hard, conduct yourself in a proper manner and use your head, then the results will most likely be positive. So readers, please take into consideration that some portion of the guys in this industry are not very bright nor do they conduct themselves in a diplomatic manner. So don't just go dismissing any company just because of a few people who've had a bad experience. Go to a truckstop and ask drivers about who they work for and how they like it. Then, and only then might you get real feedback. It seems that forums like this tend to attract negative feedback. Also, look at the grammar and spelling of some of the posters on here and you'll understand that their level of intelligence is not of the highest caliber. Take that into consideration when deciding how much credibility they might have. I hope my post has been helpful, and if I can be of some assistance please let me know. I'll check back on this thread to address any questions you might have. I know how it felt when I was looking for my first company so I'd be glad to help.

You did the otr thing for a short time with Werner so you have to know OTR sucks because of all the swapping and splitting.Considering where I lived I could'nt get no dedicated account. You pretty much know what youll bring home every week and you're also home every weekend.OTR doesn't get a lot of what you dedicated drivers do.My dispatcher and I had a great relationship and got along with everybody but that doesn't pay the bills. You can conduct yourself in the most politest manner but that doesn't mean you're going to be favored, not as an OTR driver it doesn't mean that at all.Werner has too many drivers and not enough freight to go around so everytime I got a load I get 50 miles down the road if that and the annoying panic button would go off to swap to get a driver home or the load the other driver has don't have enough time to get it there so the other driver gets picked and that load is going towards the place you just left from.
