Very few drop and hooks. Maybe a dedicated route is like that...

Interesting. Of course with a reefer its hard to leave it unattended. So you must have to sit a lot and wait. What is your average time waiting? I appreciate the information.

Yeah, long live loads/unloads with multiple stops in the middle of the night is what made me shy away from reefer.

I never said that I ran reefer, but I talked with some people who did and also read many accounts on this forum of what the downsides are. (What I said was that I shied away from it for those reasons.)

What I read from people who do or did run reefer:

    - Live loads, pick up at grocery warehouses in late evening
    - Live unloads, multiple stops at food stores or warehouses throughout the rest of the night (these places only accept deliveries in the middle of the night during restocking)

This may be fine with some folks but it didn't sound like it was for me. If you've had a different experience, I'm all ears and would like to know.

There are alot of live p/u's and drops. U also have some long wait times, but it are very quick. It's not as bad is people make out to be. Also the van drivers never have wait! I have got detention time maybe every other week.

Typically, for live's they give me morning appointments, (i.e., 5-10am) and enough time to get there the night before and take my break there (many places permit that, just check first) I do about an even number of live and drops, with multi-stops once in a blue moon. I call the 1am deliveries red eyes, but I literally have only done 4 of those all year, 2 were at the same place. We don't technically do "stores", just distribution centers, warehouses, and food processing plants. Wait times on live loads are toss-ups. I claim detention MAYBE once a month. Our best customers have like 6+ trailers on hand at any time for drop and hooks, some repeat so frequently that all I need to see is the city and state on the preplan and I'll already know the drill.

But really my favorite part of reefer is delivering and picking up at DC's instead of tiny mom-and-pop places. I don't like blind-siding down the eye of a needle with no help like I often had to on van. Most DC's are HUGE with plenty of room to maneuver. Call me lazy I guess.
