We can sign on an O/O as well, we have a few and they are happy, we have both a % program and a flat per mile program to choose from.
Whats the trick ???

Again GA just an example--BUT--buddies place does ALL maint in house here in PA--not a big deal--some time driver hangs for part of a day--sometime does a reset--sometimes grabs another truck to go deliver and pick up next load--typically routine maint(especially if you keep up equip properly)doesnt take all that long--not too hard to do--especially IF you have the right drivers(which is the crux of your issue)place I am talkin about is a very old established carrier--and they are extremely selective--most if not all of their drivers treat trucks as if their own--and my buddies dad takes anal retention to almost unheard of levels when it comes to care of his trucks--sometimes we all wonder how he has managed to live this long(he's 77)as nutz as he gets sometimes--he's been known to have an anuerism when a truck rolls in dirty--even if it just stopped snowin--LOL

I applied to a local company that had been "in the business" for 4 generations recently. When we went out for the road test, I refused to drive the truck after doing the pre-trip. It was an old Freightliner cabover that shouldn't even be on the road. I politely explained to the owner why I wouldn't drive the truck and he told me that was the only truck he had available to use for the road test.
He understood why I wouldn't drive the truck when I showed him everything that was wrong with it. It's been my experience that alot of the local, smaller companies have alot of equipment that fits this picture. It's discouraging as a driver when we apply to a local company to have to climb into old, misused, and outdated equipment and work for wages comparable, or even less than we can make with the bigger companies. It's especially hard for the smaller companies to keep up with the bigger carriers too when it comes to equipment, pay, benefits, etc. The one big advantage I've seen with smaller companies though is the home time. I know I'd love to find a smaller, local carrier to drive for, but around here, they just don't exist. -
Chrome and flash is good but that just adds to the overall overhead, personally i feel that it would be better to have a reliable truck and a good wage over flash and a smaller paycheck. but that is just my opinion, thank you for the suggestion.Tonythetruckerdude, misterG, cc tanker and 4 others Thank this.

So what's your WOW factor.?
What would make me want to consider comjng there?
Ask your current employees. Better yet, have someone else ask them.
Look at a marketting company -
This is exactly why you are struggling. It's not about what you want, but the driver.
-
I know of an excellent driver - he is an owner operator out of Massachusetts. Do you have a need for someone out of Mass?
-
Completely disagree. Being a O/O or an IC doesn't conclude you're a good driver. Your CSA, MVR, and DAC reports conclude that.DE36535, Tonythetruckerdude, Shaggy and 2 others Thank this.

So drivers would rather a fancy truck and smaller wages?
-
Depends on the driver. Some fancy shiny things.
