My dad did too. He said he and the other drivers learned a lot...but the horses pulling the wagons didn't seem to learn a darned thing.

If you follow it it is nearly impossible to have a collision. You cannot hit what isn't there.

Not quite true. It makes it nearly impossible to have an at fault collision. I had an a not at fault which I watched in the mirror.

The Smith system goes way back. Used to be the Smythe system in Jolly Olde England.
The leading system is the Jones system. The Smith system tries to keep up. -
It's a good system. I was taught to drive that way from the day I had my license though so the training wasn't anything new to me. My dad was trained in it and he taught me from the start with the system without telling me that it was a system. Probably thought I'd think he was smart or something.

I taught that when I was safety. Added some, took some away. ARR is my version. Attention, Reaction, Results. It's really the same.

By far, the single most important aspect of a good driver. And if you use the Smith System, that's what it instills; the ability to be proactive.
