I haul water and generally we load the tank full. Even though it's a smooth bore, being full will minimize the surge. But...the other day I had a problem with the well and could only load 6,000 gallons instead of the normal 6,200. Let me tell you, just 200 gallons short of a full load and the surge was VERY pronounced. I can't imagine what a 1/2 or 3/4 load would feel like.
mje Thanks this. -
Thanks! I've definitely liked everything I've heard & experienced so far! And will do on keeping folks posted. It's been a good first day of orientation.

Amazing how just a little makes a huge difference, eh?mje Thanks this.

The first time you forget, and get a little sloppy, you'll swear you just got rear-ended by a bus. Gives a whole new dimension to the phrase "drive like there's an egg under the accelerator".mje and Voyager1968 Thank this.

Baffles are a wonderful thing!

Can you give me some reasons you thought tankers would be best?
Probably will be starting school next month. -
It really is. Every time I'd grab a gear on the upshift, about 2 seconds later the surge would hit the back of the tank.mje Thanks this.

Well, I spent a great deal of time researching CDL schools, trucking companies, & types of trucking (dry van, reefer, flatbed, tanker). Based on all that, it seemed to me the best money for a company driver was in tankers. Also, there seemed to be better hometime (maybe not initially, but eventually), & less actual physical stuff as well. I've talked to a few current tanker guys that used to flatbed. Each told me that after moving to tanker they'd never do anything else.
Now, I'm sure some opinions may vary on all that, but all the research I did led me to those conclusions.mje Thanks this.
