Nope i excused myself went outside took a moment, came back inside thanked him for the oppurtunity, and apologised for the accident
pattyj Thanks this. -
No matter how small the accident is,companies make a huge issue out of it and you learn from it.Doubt this will tarnish your chances.Start paying attention to close detail and you'll do fine with your next company.

Thankyou, and i did learn that im getting out and looking no matter how confident i am

Firstly, as sort of argued here before by me, this driver probably went to a school where they never had students hook and unhook with air suspension....lack of practical training.
If you read this, you should have not said anything and repaired it or had it repaired yourself uless they seen you do it. Additonal adivce; never take for granted that the kingpin is the correct height, after 24 years, I check everytime.
And also, never take for granted the brakes are set on the trailer when backing under. I did this one time when I started driving up in Pennsylvania in the winter. A trailer was dropped on a downslope, and the brakes leaked off, but ice and water had frozen the spring mechanism. When I went to back under it, it took off backwards down the slope. I was albe to 'gun it' and catch the trailer. Otherwise it would have went over the hill. Also, everytime you come out of a truckstop, check your trailer doors, and that your fifthwheel is locked. My friend came out of the truckstop and pulled away with the trailer dropping on his tires....someone pulled the release for some reason....to be funny or whatever. Good luck. -
I agree when you said he shouldn't have said anything. What happened here sounds minor and simple to fix.Companies make a mountain out of a mole hill over the silliest things.Thats the only time everyone including Washington notices drivers.

I knew someone who worked for them and said they were good. I live near the headquarters in NJ. I was told that after working there for awhile you could get a local gig with them. Is there any truth to that?
-
I worked for them for a year, and actually I made good $$, Andy was a breeze to get along with, they let my wife ride with me, of course there was a plan for that. I had choice of loads for the most part, will grozier was a great person also. talked to the owner and was fun to get a long with, they put an inverter in my truck for me and my wife so we could have a microwave, refridgerator, tv and a George forman grill, then we was set, got home every weekend unless I asked to stay out. Chicago yard and people in the office treated us good. I had found a local job now but I would consider going back if needed to. maybe try and go in and get on there good side, they are good people, my thoughts only and every one is different. good luck

Nobody is perfect, but if the very first thing you do at a new job is screw something up I would fire you too. Put yourself in their shoes, this guy can't hook the trailer up without damaging something, what's going to happen when he gets off the loading dock and gets into traffic. Minor screw ups happen, and I'm guessing had you been there for some time you may not have got canned, but first impressions are lasting impressions.
