Personally I'm leaning towards this model. I like the day and night results. Price is up there, but I'm not willing to put my family's income in jeopardy on account of me being cheap.

Moon_beam Thanks this. -
Erasing photos, or any data, from a memory car, chip, hard drive does not actually erase the data. It removes the address for the bits that make up the photo, email, etc freeing up those sectors to be used again to rewrite data.
Only when the inciminating evidence photos have been rewritten with new data is the old data thoroughly gone.
If you want to wipe a camera memory card choose "Reformat" instead of "erase"

Did that one with my college graduation photos, before any of them hit the computer or a print shop. Yea, it's a thorough way... and painful at times.

Actually the "quick reformat" just wipes the file allocation table. If you want to actually manipulate bits, you need to do a proper format, or use a tool like Killdisk.

If your at fault and have the dash cam on, I'd take the card out and smash it with a hammer, several times.

You would do that for me? How could I ever repay you?

Yes, it would be evidence. And it would be well within the bounds of the constitution to compell you to provide your footage. Destroying the SD card or anything else would be tampering with evidence/obstruction of justice -- a crime much bigger than whatever infraction you recorded. Besides, I've found I'm less prone to putting myself in marginal situations when I know the cam is recording.
I have the dieselboss db4. Works well in day and dusk, and adequate at night. With sound turned off, 20fps instead of 30, and 720p it'll record over 24 hours on a 32g sd card before looping. Cost is within your range. You can set it to 1080p or have it record only when motion detected. dieselboss.com
records over old. -
I use a VDC01 from VideoDashCam.com, had it for the last year. All the bells & whistles mentioned in this thread & night vision which works well.
As mentioned earlier I leave this running when truck is unattended and when sleeping, just close up the display. Great watch dog for the truck. Power draw is negligible & it has an internal battery as well.Moon_beam Thanks this.
