Which Company is better......

    I should have changed that. Their website say .39 cpm. The lady I spoke with said 34 cpm but she wasn't to sure. I'll be honest and say 39 cpm starting out is not bad at all. Especially with a good company as crete.

    Thanks for the advice GM. I did think of that also but more alone the lines of 1 year. Both companies has good reps so I wouldn't be mad either way.

    Can someone do a comparison of the equipment for me or tell me what each company have and I could look up the make and model. Thanks.

    It wont get to me, as a matter of fact, I am looking forward to it. One daughter in college, one on her way to college and the baby girl will be a junior next year in high school. So no babies to keep me home. Yes pay is good but good company is important to me as well. Which ever i get with first I hope to stay there for a while. My pecking order is Crete first and Roehl second. Due to the pay different.

    Thanks Road Dog, yes I read the post about Roehl on this forum and your input on that was taking into consideration along with the others. You know sometimes we don't wont to pay our dues but I know it must be done and I have no problem with it.

    Now I read about the praticle mile on Roehl website but don't understand how it will compare to a company paying more. If crete were to pay me 34 cpm and Roehl were to pay me 30 cpm practicle miles, wouldn't I make more money with crete?

    Crete has Freightliner Century condos with the 455HP Detroit Diesel engine. Roehl has International and Freightliner mid roof sleepers. I believe they have the Cummins engines. If my info is wrong, someone please correct me.

    First of all ,the difference between Practical and Household movers miles is quite a bit.Under the Household Movers guide you will be paid for about 80 percent of the miles you actually drive.The practical mile setup is pretty darn close to your actual miles driven.Case in point,I drove for a short time for Swift at $.40 a mile, Then drove for Roehl at $.38. a mile,and I made more money at Roehl.I would guesstimate that the difference would be around 4 to 5 cents a mile.Roehl would always send me a preferred route to take,and if I followed that route I would be very close to my paid miles.I had been on the road long enough to realize that it was not always the best way to go,so I just used it as a guideline.As far as equipment Roehl uses ,or did use some Internationals and mainly Freightliners.And yeah they are the midroof sleepers,which are plenty roomy enough for a single driver.The older trucks were Cummins powered,however the newer Freightliners had 560 Series 60 Detroits.I found that Roehl maintained their trucks very well. When you get ready to hire on with a company ,find out what mileage scale they use,it can make a very big difference in your paycheck.I would wonder about a company paying a new unexperieced driver $.39 a mile. There has to be some catch to it.Somewhere around $.30 to $.32 would sound more like it.This is just my opinion,I am now retired for about the 3rd time,and if I ever need to go back out on the road it will be with Roehl.As for someone saying to take the posts here with a grain of salt.Who in the heck do you think is doing the posting on this sight.I would rather get info here than from a bunch of bellyaching truckers at a truck stop. Or worse yet the chosen few who are always at the terminals griping about their runs,etc.No matter who you sign on with,it is basically just a job,and in order to get along you have the responsibility of delivering your loads on time and in a safe manner.Good luck.

    Thanks Road Dog, I have been researching for at least two week and my list is now cut to two. Crete and Roehl are the companies that I would like to work for. Well the recruiter at Crete told me they would not hire me at this time because the school I went to is not on their approval list. He went on and told me to go to a company(Werner):biggrin_25513: and get some training and call him in four months and then they would be able to hire me. They would start me off at .40 cpm but I would still have to go out with a trainer.:biggrin_25523:WTF!

    I call Roehl and told the Recruit to start processing my application. If everything check out on the app I can start orientation in GA sometime in March. I told her I was still in school and she said no problem they were booking orientation through March and only had a FEW spots left. She said if all go well then I would know something in 24 to 48 hours.

    Even though I wanted to go with Crete first, I have no problem with driving for Roehl as they are just as good of a company as Crete. If Roehl give me a chance to start with them, I plan on driving for them longer than four months. Also, both companies was saying that they only had National routes so its no big deal about that either. Anyway, thanks for all the input and I can not wait to get this show on the road
