Thanks everyone for your input! I actually applied at Roehl but they never called me or emailed me back. From what I understand they are a tough company to get on with. As far as Melton, I've never heard of them and will definitely research and look at them! My buddy just called me and said he was going with FedEx as a team driver and wanted to know of I'd team with him. I'd guess that FedEx was a good company to work for!

Often times, YOU have to do the follow up.
good luck with f.x. -
I lived in Florida for over twenty years. Only once did I drive for a reefer outfit. Mostly hated the freight and the noise of the reefer - even the supposedly quiet units. So consider that part of it too.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
With FedEx, will you be driving a company truck or for an 0/0..? Most FedEx trucks are privately owned then leased on to FedEx, then the truck owner hires drivers for them. That's a personal call you must make for starting this new career.
Melton has APU's and excellent healthcare and other benefits. -
Some people never get used to reefer noise. I was lucky, it didn't bother me. Hauled butter, cream, frozen cakes, etc to Florida for a few years, mainly to Publix or WinnDixie, then pick up loads of orange juice or produce out of the Everglades. I liked it OK & only got stuck there once with no load out, in Miami. The company used CH Robinson for loads and they kept us really busy.

Yeah, after doing research on FedEx it seems like I would have to be an independant contractor for them and I'm not much in to that for my first job. I think I'm going to go with Willis Shaw. They seem to be a good company from what I've read and heard from other drivers.

How are things at Willis Shaw ??
