Depends... what are you trying to do with them? Straight O/O lease on, or L/P?

Landstar is good if your firm and don't let the dispatchers push you around. Mercer is something like them. Percentage companies with non forced dispatch are all the same. Haul cheap freight with an occasional good load popping up from time to time. Companies have their favorites and you may have to sit a home a few days at first until they know you won't pull junk freight. Send a clear message from the start so they know not to bother you with junk. Probably would be best to get set up pulling a drop deck with lights and oversize markers then wait until the the high dollar freight pops up.

Well im about to get a new truck, I want to put it OTR, and honestly dont think I have the organizational skills to keep up with paper work and do my own authority. So what im looking for, is the most money and freedom, with my own truck. In 13 years I have hauled everything but Cattle and Cars.. So I can get on with just about any body pulling any type of trailer. Maybe there are some small broker outfits around that I could lease on with, maybe rent a trailer from them as well. Just trying to see what idea you guys have.. :)

Personally I would get with a company that is a little more pushy andhas a great account with high dollar freight. Definitely have more freedom with landstar and Mercer but too much freedom makes a man lazy unless you don't need much money then I'd say landstar.

The more money the better! I have ben known to drive from Austin, TX to L.A. California nonstop on many occasions, so cant say im lazy. :) Guess what im looking for here, now that I think about it, IS a company that just acts like a broker for me, takes care of the paper work, and lets me rent a trailer. Now I guess I kinda do sound lazy. hahaha
Who do you think is like a LS type company, but has good freight... Although I would prefer to be pulling a skateboard or hauling fresh salads around.
Oh and I dont do California anymore..

neither landstar nor mercer have dispatchers. as for cheap freight, ya mercer is real cheap. I'm averaging well over 2 bucks a mile on all miles with a good portion of them being empty or extremely light.

op, you will do fine at either mercer or landstar if you have any brain cells at all. i would recommend mercer over landstar simply cause landstar requires all new contractors to have eobr's.

    rodknocker Thanks this.

electronic on board recorder. most call them elogs. but not the same thing. an elog is nothing but doing your logbook on a tablet or laptop, Hell even some smart phone apps are approved by the dot. the eobr's actually tie into the vehicle ecm and use a tracking device.
