Wiring question on 88 Pete

    I don't see any numbers on the wires... Not saying they aren't tho. But anyway I fed power back through the center pole of the trailer plug by taking a 3 inch jumper and going from the turn signal to the center hole in the trailer plug and then turned my signal on... I thought this would be better so that way if I found a dead wire flashing in the dash I knew it would be it instead of just a random hot wire because I'm pretty sure a rat has done a lot of wiring on this truck. It's been an ongoing nightmare that I've been dealing with since I bought it

    But anyway I did that and I still can't get any power anywhere new... Nothing in the dash. Nothing in the fuse panel. Nothing on the firewall. Only place is right at the trailer plug where the jumper is. So this might be a stupid question but do NON ABS trailer cords still have a wire in the center or is it blank?? There's a connector in the center hole on either end of the cord but I'm not sure if it actually has a wire in the cord itself.

    And I don't see anything anywhere labeled aux on the wiring but I'll check out the schematic. Thanks again for the input guys!!

    Here is a Schematic of the older Pete 379's.

    It should go to the fuse panel unless it was wired for a switch. On the right side of your fuse panel, it should have a row for switched power. It should have a fuse slot for AUX, if not, it's the 4th or 5th one down (or so). If it was not ordered with a manual switch, the trailer aux should have been wired right to that fuse to come on with the key. The fuse may have not been installed at all if no trailer aux power was ordered.

    Then again, since 1988, who knows if it was changed around any??

    Can somebody look at the schematic grape ape posted... I follow the AUX wire to the group of spare circuits but where does it go from there?? I see the other spot where it looks like it picks up spare circuits but none of the wires are labeled AUX like it is where it ends the first time. I'm sorry if I'm too stupid to follow it. I just need some guidance. Thanks again

    Oh and grape... There is no slot on the fuse panel labeled AUX... I've looked several times

    It depends on if the truck was wired for a manual switch or not. If it was not factory wired for a dash switch, then it should go right to the fuse panel in a switched power slot. If it was wired for a switch, it still ends up in the fuse panel, but through a switch 1st.

    In either case, I believe that the wire does run up behind the dash before ending up at the fuse panel. It may be on the left side by the head light switch, that's where I usually see a trailer aux switch, near the load light switches. I can't see Pete having a different harness for every option, they probably just don't install the switch.

    It's marked aux, and will be wire tied somewhere in the wiring harness behind the dash. It's not in the fuse panel.

    Thanks grape. SL... So I have to run a fuse myself??? Cuz I did throw power to the wire at the plug and nothing lot up on the fuse panel... How stupid

    I used the aux for a tailgate on an enddump in 94 379. On that truck it was just folded up in the harness and tied like I said previously. It won't light anything up because it isn't hooked up to anything.

    Wow I can't believe they don't at least run it through the fuse panel.... Thanks a lot for the info tho
