Before y'all see my username and try to run me off the board, I am here trying to get a job in the trucking industry..I've read reviews of carriers, and it helped me make a decision on one company heavily recruiting me for a safety slot.

I got tired of writing tickets and the anti trucker attitude, and you'd be surprised at the guys I worked with who felt DOT has gone overboard. All I will say is we let a lot slide in my state because we got tired of wrecking guys' livelihoods.

Anyway, I answer questions that won't attack me, or give away my ID .. but feel free to ask away.

Thank you for posting on here. Your knowledge will be extremely valuable. I wish there were more DOT with your attitude. Again thanks!

You're welcome. I think the final straw was watching the feds go in and auger some carriers, yet one carrier I was writing up on a weekly basis for no/dq cdl with 18-20 violations each inspection, with half of them OOS, and they ignoring that carrier...I knew I was spinning in the mud.

It's tough getting a job now with smaller carriers. Not fun.

Welcome to the board, there will be a few who will try to bust your chops here, take it with a grain of salt, and please stick around, guys like you are an excellent addition to TTR.

I would think most smaller carriers would welcome someone like yourself with open arms into their safety department.

Thanks. My dad was a trucker. Had a B-61 Mack that he retired about ten yeara ago. Love the old Macks :)

The best safety man I've known was a retired state trooper. He knew all the dirty tricks used against trucking companies. If any of us got a phoney ticket, he just smiled and made a phone call and the ticket vanished. He felt the same as you about the anti-trucker attitude & he just couldn't comprehend the reasoning behind it, but did acknowledge much of it has to do with re-election campaign contributions. In some states the top DOT official is elected, not appointed.

    Welcome to the forum.

Most of the folks here are good guys. There are some tinfoil hat wearers and "anti-gubbermint" types, but they are the exception.

Your agency sounds like they had quite the attitude towards trucking. Mine is not nearly so hostile.

Look forward to reading your posts.

Yea, it was an annoying experience checking emails daily...we were given non satisfactory evals for not writing enough tickets in a certain area, even tho statute prohibited them from setting a quota. Lots of angry troopers.
